When making a grocery list for someone else there are a few steps to follow. The most important step is being specific. Write down how many you want, the brand name, the product name, the size of the package, and the price if at all possible. These are all very important steps to ensure that you get the product you want and in the right size.
Each detail you give about on your grocery list will be beneficial to both you and the shopper. The details you give cut out any confusion on the shoppers' part. The size and price are very important details especially on sale items. Here is an example of a detail oriented shopping list:
4-Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage- 16oz pkg- Buy One Get One Free
2-Sugardale Bacon- Thick Sliced-16oz pkg- $2.69
1-Deans 2% Milk (dark blue cap) - 1 gallon- $3.79
With details like these on your grocery list, it leaves little room for error on the shoppers' part.
Another useful tip is to inform the shopper what to do if the store is out of a product on your grocery list. If they are out of Sugardale Bacon, should they buy a different brand or not get anything at all? In today's world of technology the shopper, more than likely has a cell phone and could call with any questions. However many phones do not always have service inside the grocery stores. The fluorescent lighting and large amounts of metal in the store often block the signal. Other times the shopper will feel they have enough knowledge of the products and choose a different one if the original request was not available.
Although these tips are basically common sense to most of us, it is easy to assume that the shopper will automatically know what you are talking about. These simple instructions can make a grocery shopping trip much easier on you and the shopper.

You should check out List2Shop.com Its free, and it does exactly what you are saying here. It almost looked like a review for List2Shop.com without its name mentioned. http://list2shop.com
Your suggestions on the grocery list detail descriptions is very useful. There are so many times when I sent my husband to the store for somethings and, very often, he came back with the wrong stuff. This is not even funny when the pot is boiling and waiting for the ingredients to go in.
I just got a gadget called ScanAndShop from Amazon to address this problem. It uses the barcode of each item to create the shopping list. The print out list has the barcode, name, brand and package size/type of the product. It also reminds you if you have coupons for what you are buying. At $149, it's a little expensive but I can tell you, it's worth it. The money I save in not buying the wrong items by my husband has covered the cost of buying it.
These are excelent tips that I had never thought of. I bet it could even help those that are used to doing the shopping. I can see it helping with budgeting and cutting out things really not needed once you total up the prices. The Internet is a great source for that type of information.
Last week, I abbreviated BOGO...my hubby didn't get it, lol :)
Good tips...
Great tips! I'll have to use this for my husband next time he's running errands. I can send him to the store for two things and he comes home with fifteen--but forgets what I needed!! :)
These are very helpful tips. When I make a list for myself, it is easy to adjust when I'm in the store if the product I want isn't available, but it's not so easy if my husband is doing the shopping for me. These tips will certainly help us in the future!
My mother should read this. Then maybe she can actually do her shopping in under 2 hours...
I hate making grocery lists. Now, with your tips I will make them. Thanks Ryanick Paige!!!
