Change your mindset about hairdressers.
Far too many people believe it is unnecessary to visit the hairdresser on a regular basis. I mean a conditioner is just a conditioner, right? You can twirl those curling irons just as good as anyone else. Well, I had this mindset for over five years and never saw any increase in the length of my hair because of it. I permed my hair myself. I put ponytails in it. I braided it, twisted it and even cut my own bangs.
It took me hours to do all that work. Finally, years later, I started going to the hairdresser on a regular basis. I didn't just pick out the hairdresser randomly. Instead I got recommendations from people whose hair I believed looked great. It took me years actually to find the beautician I currently have, but she is fantastic. She's an African American hairdresser who lives a few towns over from me. My hair is growing all the time, and people who know me always say my hair is getting longer, so I encourage you to let a hairdresser work on your hair regularly. Products do make a difference, and so does technique. For instance, the hairdresser I go to doesn't wrap my hair and let me sit under the dryer. She blows it out, so she has a bit of a different technique. She also doesn't encourage me to get perms even though as a child, people always told me my hair was the nappiest of nappy.
Look for a hairdresser that has at technique that gets your hair growing. You want someone who doesn't pressure you to get perms, and don't settle for a hairdresser just because you've known her for a long time. There could be someone who can do your hair better, and you're only a hair appointment away from getting the long black hair you desire. Talk to people and ask them who does their hair.
Change your mindset in general.
Believe that you deserve long hair and believe that it's possible for you to have it. Don't buy into things you read that tell you your hair will only grow a certain length. Instead, have faith that your hair can grow just as long as people of other cultures. Believe that you can afford to go to the hairdresser because you may not be aware, but there are other things you have in life that you believe in having in spite of what your finances look like. For instance, some people always find money to eat, no matter what their bank account looks like, so you can get your hair done and grow it long no matter what your financial situation is. Change your mindset, and grow your black hair faster.
