Abromeitiella is pronounced ah-brohm-ay-tee-EL-ah. It is the name of the genus of a group of plants that share many similar characteristics. Argentina is the original home of this plant. It is in the family of succulents called Bromeliaceae. The plant is made up of small mounts of triangular-shaped leaves. They are thick succulent green leaves that cluster as the abromeitiella matures. It can get up to 3 or 4 feet in diameter. If you grow this succulent in a container, it probably will not get this big. The leaves have tiny sharp spines on the tips. It is recommended they be planted outside in the ground only in temperature zones 9b and 10.
This succulent also produces flowers. They are greenish-yellow and are tubular in shape. The flowers of the abromeitiella can measure up to 2 inches long. They will appear from the top of each leaf cluster during the summer months.
The abromeitiella can be propagated by using cuttings. If you know someone who has a specimen of this plant, you might ask them if you can get a cutting from their plant. Or you can buy plants that are already established at your local nursery or garden store.
Abromeitiella prefers soil that is gritty but rich. It grows best in direct sun and requires a bit more moisture than other succulents. It will tolerate drought conditions, but grows much better if it gets watered regularly. It will tolerate temperatures down to 28 degrees F. It is quite easy to grow once you get the cuttings rooted and the plants are established.
The species most recommended is Abromeitiella brevifolia. This type has very small mounding groups of leaves that form rosettes, which are symmetrically arranged leaves that are reminiscent of a rose. It is a lovely succulent and will be a great addition to your home garden. There are other types which have much larger leaves. It just depends on what look you plan to have in your garden. The larger leaves will probably make a more spectacular display. However, the variety with smaller leaves is easier to grow in a container.
Growing unique plants can be a wonderful hobby. There are many lovely succulents that you can grow in your garden or in containers. Hopefully, these tips will help you grow the beautiful succulent abromeitiella successfully.
