How to Grow Great Adromischus

Adromischus is a popular succulent herb or small bush. This is probably because it is quite easy to grow. Here are some tips to help you grow great adromischus in your home garden or in a container.

Adromischus is pronounced ah-dro-MISS-kus. It is in the family Crassulaceae. This plant is a native of central to southern Africa.

Adromischus plants have a wide variety of interesting leaves. These leaves can sometimes form rosettes, depending on the species. It has a stout stalk. The color of the foliage can range from green to a grayish-blue. Sometimes it also has splotches of maroon or purple. Many species have smooth leaves. But, there are also some with a crinkled texture to their leaves, with a skin that resembles a raisin. This is caused by small warts on the leaves. At times, the plants will produce aerial roots along the stems. When adromischus is dry, it can resemble Spanish moss.

The flowers are small and range in color from white to red. They develop on short spikes that are on the top of the plant. Adromischus blooms during the summer months. However, the flowers are not very attractive or large in size.

Adromischus can be propagated by stem and leaf cuttings. They will need very light water during the winter months, due to becoming dormant. To bring out the best colors in your plants, they should be exposed to sun. They will also do well indoors under lights. Because of their short, gnarled trunks, these plants make wonderful bonsai specimens.

Adromischus will grow best in soil that is gritty and rich. It needs bright light, but not necessarily direct sunlight. It requires a slightly dry environment. The soil should be almost dry between waterings. This succulent is very easy to grow and is recommended for beginners.

There are several species that are recommended. A. cooperii, also called plover-eggs, has light green leaves and purplish-red flowers. A cristatus, or crinkle-leaf plant, has stems that are covered with many red-brown aerial roots. A festivus has purplish-brown spots on it's leaves. And, A. maculatus, or calico hearts, has leaves with brown spots on them.

Succulents are a wonderful plant to grow in containers on your patio. They are easy to take care of and are beautiful additions to any décor. Hopefully, these tips will help you grow wonderful specimens of adromischus in your home or garden.
