Make Your Hair Appear Lengthier

Women with long hair often lament the regular maintenance required by their hairstyle while women with short hair occasionally long for length. Luckily for women with shorter haircuts and hairstyles, there are a few tips that can be utilized to make their locks look as long as possible when the need arises.

Make Hair Look Longer - Keep the Color Consistent

A consistent hair color allows hair to reflect light a lot better than chunky and heavily separated highlights, especially considering the type of highlights afforded by at home highlighting kits. To have lengthy looking hair, consider investing in a quality dye job in a uniform color without any added highlights or lowlights. Then your hair will reflect daylight and artificial light in a consistent pattern that screams length.

Make Hair Look Longer - Use Your Hair Dryer

Even with an ordinary hair dryer you can add a bit of length to your hair by coupling a stout hair gel with a hair brush. After applying a generous amount of hair sculpting gel, aim your hair dryer down from above your head and dry on a lower heat setting while brushing down. The gel will help way your hair down the entire time you are brushing and will give it a more uniform appearance post drying. The straighter and less full hairstyle achieved will give the hair the appearance of added length.

Make Hair Look Longer - Break Out the Flat Iron

Unless you have extremely fine hair, chances are your hair could appear a great deal lengthier if you employed the use of a hair straightening tool or flat iron. A quality flat iron with ceramic ironing plates is best. Separate your hair into several small sections (or more depending on the thickness) and flat iron each grouping. For the person with wavy hair or with thicker hair, a good session with a flat iron can add a couple of inches of length.

Make Hair Look Longer - Avoid Frizz

Frizz plays the same type of optical illusion as chunky highlights can. A bad case of frizz, static, or fly-aways alters the way light reflects off of the hair and does absolutely nothing for the hair in terms of adding length. By utilizing anti-frizz techniques such as frequent use of conditioner, deep-conditioner, and leave-in conditioner, frizz can be largely eradicated. On days with completely awful frizz conditions, use an anti-frizz gel post wash and an anti-frizz spritz when styling.

Make Hair Look Longer When Wearing a Ponytail

If you want to wear a ponytail and are trying to make your hair look lengthy avoid a high and athletic ponytail and go for a more sophisticated low version secured at the nape of the neck with a neutral colored elastic band. The low ponytail keeps the length of the hair prominent accentuating the length that is present instead of securing it higher than usual and thereby shortening the appearance.

Making hair look longer is mainly done by keeping the hair smooth, clean, and shiny while knowing how to reflect light!
