How to Make Your Haircut Last Longer

Cutting down on the number of haircuts you get each year is an easy way to save some money during these hard times, especially for those of you who go to a pricey salon. There are many simple things that you can do to keep your hair looking great between cuts so that you do not need to get a trim so often.

First of all, consider this a good time to change up your style and grow some long hair. Longer hair can go for months in between haircuts because it will not outgrow its shape the way, say, a bob would. Also, you'll want to go longer between cuts if you are really excited about getting your hair to be long. I also suggest growing out your bangs unless you are able to trim them by yourself. Clips can hold them out of your face until they are long enough to blend in with your hair.

Many people feel the need to get regular trims because of split ends. If you put a little work into your hair each day you can greatly decrease the amount of split ends that develop and save yourself from having to have a professional get rid of them. Spending a few minutes each day to trim out split ends as they form is one of the easiest things you can do to improve the look of your hair. You should do this with a sharp pair of scissors that are only used on your hair because dull scissors will only make the problem worse. An easy way to spot split ends is to sit by a window and twist little bunches of hair at a time so the bad ends will pop out.

Doing less heat styling will also help to protect your hair from split ends. With the weather getting warmer, simply put some gel or mousse in your hair and let it air dry. This has the added benefit of saving a few dollars on your electric bill each month because hair dryers can use quite a bit of electricity added up over time.

Several inexpensive drug store brands have recently created products to protect your hair and allow it to grow long without looking damaged. I have seen excellent results from Herbal Essence's Long Term Relationships and Pantene's Beautiful Lengths shampoo and conditioner for about $4 a bottle.

Taking care of your hair between cuts will allow you to spend money less often so that it can be used for more exciting purposes.
