Does your little princess want to be a princess for Halloween this year? Maybe a fairy? Or a pumkin? You can make all of these costumes and more by taking a short amount of time to create a no-sew Halloween tutu.
Supplies You'll Need:
*Pair of scissors
*At least five yard of any color(s) of tulle fabric
*Elastic or long piece of ribbon
*Paper towel roll (preferably on a holder to keep it steady)
*Shirt to match tulle fabric that you have chosen
Step 1:
Measure the waist of who you are making the tutu for. Then subract 2-3 inches. Cut the elastic where you have measured and sew together (I promise this is the only sewing!). If you don't want to sew at all, use ribbon. For the ribbon, do not cut 2-3 inches short. You should leave about six inches or more of excess on each side to tie the bow in the back later.
Step 2:
Roll up your yards of tulle longways, one yard at a time. Begin cutting the tulle about 2-3 inches apart. Repeat this with each yard and color of tulle.
Step 3:
Secure the elastic or ribbon (tied) around the paper towel holder. It would be best to keep the paper towel roll on a holder but if you have something to hold it with, that will work too. Next it's time to begin attaching the tulle!
Step 4:
Start attaching the tull in a slipknot. Fold the strip over and make sure it is even. Make a loop around the elastic or ribbon and pull the tulle through the loop. Pull it snug, but not so tight that it will bend up the elastic. For ribbon, it's fine to pull it as tight as you like. You can also just double-knot the strips if you feel more comfortable with that. This is the longest step, but once you are done with this, you're almost finished with the costume!
Step 5:
If you've used elastic, you are done with you're tutu. If you've used ribbon, you will need to cut off extra ribbon if after tying it in a bow, it is still flowing to the ground (just so it doesn't trip your little one!). For added decoration to the tutu, you can attach ribbon in between a few of the strips. You can either slipknot this or double-knot it.
Step 6:
(Optional) If you would like to make a satin waistband, now is the time. Just take some shiny ribbon and loop in and out of each of the strips of tulle you have tied onto the elastic or ribbon. Make sure to always have the shiny side facing up.
Step 7:
Try it on with the shirt you've got to match and Voila! There you have a nice Halloween tutu for your little princess. If this is your first tutu, it may have taken you some time, but I'm sure it has been well worth it! Happy Halloween!
