How to Handle a Bad Pet Neighbor

Gregory Todd
There are a lot types of bad pet neighbors. The first is a neighbor which has their own pet and seems to be mistreating the poor animal. If a neighbor is being cruel to an animal then you will have to report the incident to the local authorities. There may be gray areas when it comes to proper animal care and you and your neighbor will most likely have a difference in opinion about it. It is best to ask the local animal control for information since laws may differ from state to state. But remember that reporting your neighbor to local authorities will most likely deter chances of future friendship between you and your neighbor. You may be putting your own pets in danger if your neighbor is the type to hold grudges. Make sure that you have seen actual maltreatment or neglect before you phone animal control center. It may appear that your neighbor is not feeding his dog well enough without you knowing that the certain breed of dog are innately slim even if they are well fed. Such cases have been reported before. So find definite facts to avoid an embarrassing situation. You may also speak with your neighbor about your worries about their pet. Talk to them in a nice way to avoid friction. Be tactful and listen to your neighbor's explanation. After speaking to your neighbor who explains that their pet belongs to a breed that never appears to gain weight, or some other logical explanation that may shed light on what appears to be a problem but really isn't, they might not be bad pet neighbors after all.

The second bad pet neighbor type is one who has menacing pets. Their cats might be trouble makers who always find a way to come into your house and steal food or a dog their dogs might be running all over the garden ruining your precious garden plants. Be diplomatic in your approach and ask yourself whether your own pets have caused any trouble as well or if your kids have damaged the neighbor's window in the past. If so then it would be best to let it go unless the neighbor's pet is always being destructive of your property. Calling in animal control to settle animal issues should be considered as a final option.

The other kind of a bad pet neighbor is the one who keeps complaining about your beloved pets. Try to find ways to solve the situation like keeping the pets indoors at night so they don't bark out loud or scratch neighbor's fences. If you don't want to be considered a bad pet neighbor and animal control coming around for a visit, be sure to do your part in taking good care of your own pets.
