How to Make Handmade Maracas for Celebrating Cinco De Mayo

Cinco De Mayo festival is celebrated by decorating home, have some parades, music and it is lot of fun. Cinco De Mayo is celebrated on May 5 and it brings lots of fun and fiesta with it. Cinco De Mayo is a national Holiday in Mexico. Folk Music and dancing is an integral part of any Mexican celebration. Like with any festival Cinco De Mayo brings with it its characteristic decoration, food, music and lots and lots of celebration. Making your own Maracas adds some more fun in the Cinco De Mayo celebration. Kids will love this activity with a little supervision by adults. This is a very easy and fun way of making Maracas at home.

Maracas or simply shakers are often played at celebrations and music instrument. This is a simple instrument. Kids enjoy playing Maraca more when they make it themselves and use this in any fiesta or parades or simply in the festivities at home.

Follow the step-by-step instructions to make your own shakable Maracas this Cinco De Mayo.

Supplies you will need:

Balloon
Dried Beans
Craft Tape -Golden
Tissues -Various colors
Craft Glue
Wooden Dowel Rod

1.Blow the balloon just enough to make a small round, add some dried beans inside. Make a knot at the end.

2.You can take any adult's help in doing so.

3.To the end of the balloon secure the wooden dowel rod using a craft tape.

4. Decorate the balloon using tissue papers in color of your choice.

For making the one as shown in the picture you will need yellow, green and blue tissue paper. Make fringes at one end of a strip of yellow tissue paper. Stick it on the balloon using a little glue. Let it dry. Now make a strip of blue tissue paper and roll it to make a flower. Stick it on the top of the balloon. Using about 1 inch of green tissue paper squares make small balls as shown in the picture and stick it on the yellow strip. Decorate this balloon with any supplies you have at hand and whatever you feel like doing.

Your Maracas is ready. They are best when in a pair.

Tips:

-If parents are making this for a younger kid make you might want not to fix the wooden dowel rod. They are fun without the wooden dowel rod too and kids love these Maracas or Rhumba shakers.

-If for a baby, use a printed balloon instead and then you need not worry about your kid eating those tissue papers.

-You can teach your kids rhythm using this simple handmade Maracas.
