Apple Broom Arrangement
Supplies
24" cinnamon scented broom
3 medium wood apples
4 small apples
1 piece of leather or leather shoelace
Scissors
Glue gun and sticks
1 yard of burgundy plaid ribbon
1 burgundy plaid bow
1/2 pound eucalyptus
German statice or baby's breath
Burgundy dried florals
Burgundy acrylic paint
Small paint brush
Directions:
1. Cover work area with a small tarp or large plastic bag. Pour a small amount of paint in a small bowl. Paint one apple at a time. Starting with your first apple, paint the top and sides. Paint the remaining apples. Once the apples are dry, I turn the apples upside down and paint the bottom of each apple. Let dry. After the apples are dried, I paint a layer of gloss varnish over the apples. This step is optional.
2. Cut the leather shoelace or leather piece into approximately 1/4" pieces. These are the stems for the apples. Glue a stem to the top, center of each apple.
3. Glue the beginning piece of the ribbon to the back, top of the broom handle. Wrap the ribbon around the handle of the broom, ending with the ribbon at the back. Glue end piece to the back, bottom of the broom. Cut off excess ribbon.
4. Glue the burgundy plaid bow to the front, bottom of the broom handle.
5. Glue a piece of eucalyptus from the center of the bow that overlaps the top of the bow approximately three inches. Glue a piece of eucalyptus to the center bow towards the straw part of the broom that overlaps approximately three inches. Glue a piece of a eucalyptus to the center of the bow that overlaps approximately two inches on the side of the bow. Repeat for the other side of the bow. The eucalyptus pattern should form a cross pattern. Glue eucalyptus around the the bow keeping to this pattern. Do this until there is a full eucalyptus arrangement.
6. Glue a medium apple a little above the center of the eucalyptus arrangement. Glue two medium apples side-by-side below that apple. Glue a small apple above the large apple, and one on each side of the trio of apples. Glue the remaining apple below the two apples glued together.
7. Glue German statice and burgundy dried florals throughout the entire apple broom arrangement.
The website www.bearwood.com offers several sizes of wooden apples needed to make this scented broom arrangement.
