We were to make our own Easter hat using whatever we wanted to decorate it with. You can easily take this hat and hang it on the wall. There are two Happy Easter signs on the hat, or you can write something whimsical.
The first place winner won a fashionable Curves handbag. I won first prize with this hangable Easter hat with signs!
What You Will Need
Straw hat (I chose pink, but you may choose whatever color you'd like)
Thick pretty ribbon- a pattern of your choice
Scissors
Glue gun & glue sticks
Small wooden signs -or create your own with small square and toothpick
Marker
Decorated wooden Easter eggs
Small Easter baby chick
Easter green grass - chose green and light purple irredescent grass
White bunny ears that you wear on your head - some may have glittery decorations on already as mine in photo does
White fake fur from craft area of store such as Wal-Mart
Old newspapers
Google eyes that move
Felt ball - either black or pink for nose
Cotton balls
Silk flowers of your liking
White pipe cleaners
Yarn
Put old newspapers on your table or work area to protect it from hot glue. Take straw hat and cut yarn about eight to ten inches. Thread yarn through one side of the hat. Make sure the knot is on the front of the hat. (It will be covered with green grass later.) Now thread yarn on the opposite side of the hat and make a knot. This will be the yarn that hangs your hat to the wall. Please make sure it is straight and test it so it will hang nicely.
Take the hat and line middle part that fits onto your head with white fake fur. Cut fur to fit over the hat top. (You can go over a bit as you will be covering it with the green grass.) Use glue gun to glue down the fur.
Take bunny ears and put on top of hat center. You may have to cut down the part that normally would go on your head so it will fit onto hat. Glue ears onto top of hat.
Now line rim of hat with green Easter grass. Use hot glue gun to glue green grass to rim of hat. Cover up bunny ears along the side that normally go onto a person's head with the grass. Make the grass look wispy.
Glue silk flowers to rim of hat.
Glue wooden Easter eggs from discount store to hat. Just a few so the hat is like a hangable Easter sign and not too heavy.
Glue yellow or green Easter chick onto rim of hat.
Glue one cotton ball to the back of the bunny for the tail.
Now take small wooden sign - you may have to make it with a small square piece of wood and a toothpick. Glue the small square wood and toothpick together to make it look like a sign by taking the toothpick and gluing it to the back as if it is the post part of the sign.
Write on Easter sign: "Fresh Rabbit Stew!" Or you may write "Happy Easter." Anything you think is cute, funny or festive. Put in chicks wing like it is holding the sign.
Glue bunny eyes to rabbit fur where the eyes would be.
Glue two bunny pipe cleaners to front of face for whiskers. Cover front of whiskers with three cotton balls to make it look like the bunny face.
Glue one pink or black felt ball to nose area.
Glue four cotton balls, one in each area for bunny's feet.
Now put sign in front of Easter bunny that says, "No Rabbit Hunting!"
You now have a cute hangable Easter hat with signs that you created yourself!
