How to Be Happy

Denise

You can be happy. First, you have to change your way of thinking and get rid of long held ideas. Don't listen to other people's negative destructive ideas for your life that is way beneath you. Some people can make your life miserable. They can criticize, ridicule and make you feel worthless. We only have one life to live upon this earth, so do not spend another moment caring what certain 'know-it-all-I'm-better-than-you' type of people. Any goals or plans you have should not be shared with someone who will always be 'happy ' to tell you you'll fail. Whatever naysayers say to you should go in one ear, and out the other. Here are seven ways to find happiness.

Improve Your Self Esteem

If you've been battered emotionally for years, you won't have self-esteem over night just by wishing for it. Take small steps each day to raise your self-esteem. If you have several bad habits, work on changing one at a time. Keep practicing and reminding yourself of the better changes, so it will become second nature.

Think Of Others

Helping other people makes you feel good. Maybe you don't have the finances to give donations, but there's plenty you can do. You can volunteer your time, offer good advice to those who seek it. Take your mind off yourself, and on to others in need.

Be Grateful

Find 5 things in your life you are thankful for. Even if it is the most basic thing it's still good, because there are some people in the world who don't even have that. Write down three things each day that you are grateful for.

Exercise

Don't be a couch potato. If you hate exercising, there are lots of ways to move. You can take a walk, play tennis, or swim. Moving is not only imperative for your health, it makes you feel energized. It is hard to be down when you're feeling good.

Stop Wanting Material Things

Having hundreds or thousands of things will not make you happy. Focus on having your needs met and getting what you want every once in a while. I'll never forget the Oprah show where I saw once a woman who hoarded so much stuff it fit into a warehouse. It was so sad and sickening, so if you want happiness appreciate what you have.

Find A Better Job

Maybe your current job is bringing you down. The economy is slow right now, but people are still finding jobs. Join local job search groups and join social networks online.

Seek Professional Help

If your unhappiness is serious, such as depression be sure to seek professional help. You deserve to be happy, so take care of yourself.
