How Having a Good Breakfast Every Day Can Help Keep You Healthy

The never-ending question: to eat or not to eat breakfast?

I asked some of my friends and co-workers to share their opinions regarding the importance and necessity of breakfast. The subject proved to be quite controversial: some people honestly believe that breakfast can make them gain weight; others honestly believe that breakfast can make them lose weight. However, when it comes to being healthy and staying in a good shape, "believing" is not enough, you have to be sure that you're doing just the right thing.

Is it worth skipping breakfast?

There are people who actually think "No breakfast if you want to lose weight and reduce your daily intake by several hundred calories. If you eat breakfast, you will feel again hungry in just a couple of hours, and eating more - is gaining weight". You couldn't be more wrong, and this is not just an opinion, it's a proven fact!

By lowering the number of meals during the day, you make it harder for your body to assimilate the food nutrients and get rid of the excessive weight. Yes, it seems like a paradox, but it's the way our bodies work. Think of your body as of a machine (for burning calories): after a good night's sleep it needs fuel (that's food) to start working again to its full potential, so the sooner you give it this food, the sooner it begins to burn calories.

Another interesting fact, coming from our ancestors: if we deprive our body of food, even for a short period of time, it may "think" that there is not enough food and start depositing energy "for the rough times". And guess what form of tissue in our body stores more energy? You're right - fat. And the lower is the number of meals during the day - the more energy our body deposits: it's survival mode, and it gets triggered primarily when you skip breakfast. You don't have to take these statements for granted: just search scientific journal for relevant studies. For example, a recent study in the American Journal of Epidemiology discovered that the probability to get obese was four times greater for people who skipped breakfast, as compared to those who ate breakfast daily.

Breakfast tip: get your fats burned even faster by drinking a cup of green tea during breakfast, researches performed in the University of Geneva showed that it's a great source of compounds that increase the rate of fat oxidation in the body.

It's difficult for most people to change their habits, especially when it comes to food, but once you realize the true importance of breakfast for you mind and your body, and make the effort to "accept" breakfast into your life and find time for it, you will notice all the positive changes.

So power up your body with breakfast to get all the energy you need to start the day in force!
