To put together a Hawaii themed Christmas party, head over to your local party store and stock up on some fun luau gear. Grass skirts, coconut bras, and leis are great because they're so much fun and you can just pop them on over your office wear. And don't forget the Santa hats! It is a Christmas party after all!
To make your office feel like a beach luau, buy a few inflatable palm trees and Tiki lamps and set them up around the office. Some party stores even have fake Tiki hut fronts that you can put on the wall. If your office budget is tight, cut down (or out) on Tiki lamps and inflatable palm trees, and invest in posters. A few hula girls or cardboard palm tree cut outs can really change the atmosphere of the room. If you really want to break from tradition, decorate your Christmas tree with leis instead of ornaments!
But don't stop at the walls. Make sure the tables and refreshments reflect your hula theme as well. Table coverings are important for establishing a theme. Find a green table covering at your local party store, and affix a few grass skirts and leis to the front. And then, to keep the Christmas theme, juxtapose your Hawaiian themed tablecloth with Christmas themed napkins, paper plates and cups.
Thanks to the 1950's, there are lots of "Christmas in Hawaii" themed songs out there to play in the background. But, if you can't find any of these at your local record store, don't worry. With two themes combined into one, you have twice the songs to choose from. Traditional Christmas songs are the staple of any Christmas party. Try mixing those with some classic luau tunes, or see if one of your co-workers can play the ukulele!
No party is complete without a few games to liven it up. Limbo is a must have for any Hawaiian themed party, and a Christmas in Hawaii party is no different. And the best part about limbo is that all you really need is a pole and at least three willing participants! Another fun game is the Hawaiian Word Mixer. Before the party starts, estimate the number of guests you will have and then divide that by two. Then, make two sets of cards: one with Hawaiian words (preferably related to Christmas), and the other with the English translation. As your guests walk in, hand them each a card so that each guest either has a Hawaiian word or an English translation. Once the party is in full swing, have the guests mingle and try and discover who has the translation for their Hawaiian word. When everyone has paired up, hand out prizes to the ones who matched up correctly!
These are a few ideas, but this is really a Christmas party theme that lets you go crazy! You can mix Hawaii and Christmas whichever way you want. Go crazy at the party store, or just invest in a few leis and Christmas hats. Hawaiian themed Christmas parties are a blast
