How to Heal Diaper Rash

Sarah Holmes
Treating diaper rash can be difficult. Here are some proven tips to treat diaper rash.

Burt's Bees Ointment

When my daughter had diaper rash, this always seemed to work well. Burts Bees diaper ointment is available at most Target stores. When my son got diaper rash, we had to search for a different method because Burt's Bees didn't work.

Spray Bottle with Tea Tree Oil

Buy some tea tree oil and put a few drops in a bottle of water and use it to spray the area. Then dry with a cloth and/or a hair dryer. You can find the right proportions of tea tree oil compared to water online. Simply do a search for "tea tree oil" and "diaper rash". You will find some interesting results.

Hair Dryer

Using a Hair Dryer works wonders. Simply turn the hair dryer on low heat (babies don't like the high heat) and use it before wrapping the baby up.

Aloe Vera

Plain Aloe Vera without any other substance in it is a perfect way to soothe the pain of diaper rash. Apply and soothe your precious bundle with aloe vera. f

Baby Powder

We use baby powder with our boy, but not with our little girl. There can be additional dangers for girls. Before using baby powder, you may want to find out the risks of baby powder compared to the benefits.

Dry before Putting Away

Drying the area extremely well with a gentle cloth is excellent for ensuring a happy rash free baby.

Here are some other methods many people swear by:

Butt Paste

Many people swear by butt paste. It didn't work with my daughter & I never tried it for my son. I think it has a nasty smell.

Burnt Flour

Our grandmothers used to use burnt flour, I am not sure why they burnt it. Were they trying to get rid of pests out of the flour? Did it work better? I really don't know.

Try each method or a combination of methods to find out works best for you and your child. I have found that every baby is different and therefore it takes a creative and always flexible mom to help solve a babies problems. I often think of Jon & Kate plus 8 and I wonder how she does it. It seems impossible to care for 6 children each with different needs, likes and dislikes. Amazing!
