How to Heal or Treat a Busted Lip

JR Smith
It's a common medical condition that most people run into at some point in their lives, the busted lip. Either getting hit in the face by something, say a ball or door, or getting a major fight at a bar, everyone gets some sort of busted lip in their life. Luckily, the lips of a human are one of the fastest healing parts of our body. Unfortunately, it can still be difficult to perform everyday functions, such as eating, with it cracked opened and wounded. In addition, these problems can lead to longer healing times, as a person will irritated it and have the tendency to play with it.

Learning how to care for and fix a broken lip isn't that difficult; just some simple first aid techniques are needed. Getting the wound on ice, or an equally cold frozen food, should be the first goal, do this as quickly as possible. This will help by reducing the swelling of the wound, which will only increase the pain associated with the injury. You may have to place a small towel or cloth between the skin and the cold surface so no damage to the skin can take place. Another tactic you can use against swelling is ibuprofen. It's an off the shelve medicine that anyone can get that also help reduce swelling.

With swelling reduced we need to clean out the wound as best as possible. Pouring some salt water or alcohol over it can help kill the bacteria that may have entered. Killing any micro-organisms is very important as we'd like to not infect the busted lip any anyway. If the broken lip has a deep cut then look into possibly going to the emergency room and getting it stitched up. Otherwise, if it's only a shallow cut go ahead and place a little Neosporin where it needs to be and place a bandage on the lip.

Now comes the more difficult part. If the broken lip was caused by an unprovoked fight or altercation with someone, please be willing to call the police. It is very important that when someone commits a crime that it gets reported so that it can be taken care of properly.

That is the easy process of cleaning and curing a broken lip. Now that you've learned what to do you should be ready anytime the situation comes up. Good luck, and hope that whoever's lip it is doesn't have any problems.
