How to Make a Healthier Falafel with Yogurt Sauce

Bubba
I love Falafel with a yogurt sauce. I don't like to deep fry at home. I think most home fryers are scary. I also don't really need the extra fat in my diet. With this in mind I was in pursuit of a healthier Falafel that was simple and could be baked. I think you too will enjoy my research. Someone please put on a fresh pot of Columbian Coffee and we will roll up our sleeves, take off our rings , wash our hands and get cooking.

Baked Falafel with Yogurt Sauce

Falafel Ingredients:

19 oz can chick peas drained and rinsed

3-4 cloves fresh garlic

1 grated carrot

½ cup grated red onion

½ cup grated green bell pepper

2-3 Tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon cumin

¼ cup all purpose flour

1 Tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon dried red pepper flakes

Nonstick cooking spray

Falafel Directions:

Preheat oven and baling sheet to 425 Spray inside of food processor with cooking spray. Add all ingredients pulse a few times and puree till smooth. Wet your hands with water.(this helps keep the mixture from sticking to your hands) Form this mixture into balls about 2 Tablespoons each. (Golf ball size) Remove baking sheet from oven and spray well. Place balls on sheet about 1" apart and pat down to make flatter. Cook 10 min and turn over bake additional 10 min This will brown both sides.

Yogurt Sauce Ingredients:

1 Cup plain low fat yogurt

1 teaspoon garlic powder (Nor Garlic Salt)

1+ teaspoon Louisiana hot sauce (Tabasco)

2 teaspoons dry mint

½ teaspoon ground cumin

Yogurt Sauce Directions:

Mix it, chill it at least 1 hour (overnight is better), mix again, serve it.

Notes:

I like to serve this in a pita pocket with some chopped onion, chopped cucumbers and chopped tomatoes for a satisfying hand held meal.

Serve on a platter with the yogurt dipping sauce on the side for a great addition to an appetizer buffet..

Yogurt Sauce also makes a great veggie dip for an appetiser buffet or just munching in front of the TV.

OK the recipe is now yours. Make it , change it, but make it soon you deserve some great Falafel. Share the link with all your friends too. Invite your Rabi or Minister and spouse for a unique supper. Make the Chocolate Covered Cherry Pie for dessert. Don't forget to make a pot robust hot tea to enhance this meal. Mizpah. :-}}>
