How to Get Healthier Hair in Three Quick and Easy Steps

Alexandra Morgan
Hair is a barometer of sorts for the body's overall health and well being. When we're stressed, tired, or not eating right, the hair and skin will be the first to show it. Since the hair and skin are such prominent features, they are the first things we notice in a person, so it's important to keep both in tip top shape. Here are three quick and easy steps steps to healthier hair.

How to Get Healthier Hair in Three Quick and Easy Steps (Step 1): Brush Your Hair Upside Down

100 strokes a day of hair brushing with the head turned upside down will work wonders for your hair. This is something I used to do every night while in college and I had incredibly long and healthy hair. The brushing massages the scalp which stimulates the hair follicles promoting growth and the upside down position aids in blood circulation to the scalp.

How to Get Healthier Hair in Three Quick and Easy Steps (Step 2): Short and Quick Daily Scalp Massages

You'd be surprised how much your scalp needs this attention and how much your hair will benefit both from the 100 strokes of brushing mentioned above but also from short scalp massages throughout the day (in addition to when you wash your hair of course). Massaging the scalp helps to stir the scalp's oils promoting sheen and encouraging new hair growth.

How to Give Yourself a Scalp Massage:

It's quite simple really and there are three different types of scalp massage.

The first type of scalp massage is a simple light fingernail rub all over the head, just pretend as though you have an itch and go ahead and gently scratch all over the surface of your scalp.

The second type of scalp massage requires you to just rub the scalp in circular motions with the fingertips.

And the third type of scalp massage is a sort of hair pull massage. With both hands grab the hair right on top of your head at the roots and gently pull upward 20 times.

If you do one or all three of these scalp massages one or more times a day, you'll see results over time.

How to Get Healthier Hair in Three Quick and Easy Steps (Step 3): Apply a Deep Conditioning Treatment Once a Week or Once a Month

Depending on whether you have oily hair or dry, you'll want to do a deep conditioning treatment either once a week or once a month. Hair that is processed in any way daily can really benefit from this.

There are several different routes you can go for a deep conditioning treatment; you can opt for a natural homemade treatment or an inexpensive store bought treatment.

Store Bought Deep Conditioning Hair Treatments:

Several brands make deep conditioning treatments: Nexxus, Queen Helene, V05, and many more, offer inexpensive and effective deep conditioning hair treatments.

Homemade Natural Deep Conditioning Hair Treatments:

So many items you have lying around your kitchen can be used for deep conditioning hair treatments in lieu of a store bought item. Try: papaya, avocado, or mayonnaise for your next homemade deep conditioning treatment. The papaya and avocado can be mashed or pureed to the point of easy application and then applied to the hair and left on for 40 minutes to an hour as you would with any deep conditioning hair treatment.

How to Get Healthier Hair in Three Quick and Easy Steps: Conclusion

I have fallen out of the daily hair routines mentioned above, which worked so well for me when I was in college, but am now making a point to re-incorporate all of them into my life once again.

If you add even just one of these simple steps to your daily routine, you will see results. And if you remain consistent, you will see shinier hair, as well as quicker and more abundant hair growth.
