The Lemon grass which is associated with lots of Asian cooking is said to be healthy because it helps detoxify our kidney and liver. It also promotes good digestion. It even helps in cutting down uric acid and cholesterol and also helps in lowering your blood pressure. Research in Israel also shows that the citral, which is a key component in Lemon grass killed cancer cells while leaving healthy cells. As for the Pandan Leaf, the roots of this plant have anti-diabetic properties.
When it comes to making Iced tea, the taste that these ingredients give is actually really good. It gives a lot of flavor and its scent is really refreshing. The Pandan Leaf is used in Asia like how Americans use Vanilla flavoring. It has such a nice fragrance and taste to it that it is often used in making different drinks and food. Besides its calming effect for insomniacs, the Lemon grass gives a lemon-like taste to it without the bite.
Lemongrass might be hard to find since it is mostly grown in Asia but Florida and California is already planting these herbs. Pandan leaves might be hard to find since it is grown in Asia, Australia, Madagascar and the Pacific Islands. But when you do get the chance to buy some, go ahead since I promise you this Iced Tea will be refreshing not only for the summer but for the whole year round.
Ingredients:
10-12 Pandan Leaves (chopped/cute into small pieces)
6 pieces Lemon Grass
2 1/2 Cups Water 3-4 Tbsp. of Syrup or Honey
1/2 Cup of Lemon Juice
Lots of Ice Cubes (but not too much as you might taste the lemongrass and pandan leaves anymore)
Procedure:
Boil the Pandan Leaves and Lemon Grass for 4-6 minutes then strain it into a container.
Remove the Leaves.
Add the lemon juice, syrup/honey and ice cubes.
*If you want don't want to add the syrup that would be ok:)
*You may also try dipping different tea bags.
*If you can't find Pandan Leaves try Lemongrass only it will also be refreshing.
Enjoy!
