How to Make a Heart Shaped Cookie on Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is not complete with out getting those delicious heart shaped cookies. In order for anyone to get those delicious heart shaped cookies someone has got to make them. Why not let it be you? Making heart shaped cookies is very easy. Heart shaped cookies require very little effort but make a huge statement.

The first thing you will need to make your heart shaped cookies is your cookie dough. You can use your favorite cookie do recipe like chocolate chip, snicker-doodle or this great Valentines Day cookie recipe.

To make your heart shaped cookies using the Valentines Day cookie recipe you will need the following ingredients:

2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup softened butter

1½ cups sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp baking powder

Valentine's Cookie Cutters (different sized hearts, L-O-V-E, )

Cookie Icing in different colors (red, white, black, pink)

To make your heart shaped cookies using this Valentine's Day Cookies start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees F.

Next, in a small bowl, blend flour, baking soda and baking powder.

In a large bowl mix butter and sugar until it is smooth. Add egg and vanilla and mix together thoroughly. Next, slowly add in the dry ingredients from the small bowl.

Refrigerate your Valentine's Day Cookie dough for 1-2 hours.

After Cookie dough has firmed in the refrigerator, roll out dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut out desired Valentine's Day Shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes. NO LONGER. Even if they don't look done when they cool they will be crispy on the outside and deliciously chewy.

Hollow Heart Shaped Cookies

Use your imagination when making your heart shaped cookies. Use a big cookie cutter to cut out your cookie followed by a smaller heart shaped cookie cutter on the inside to make a heart shaped cookie with a hollow heart on the inside.

Put Designs in Your Heart Shaped Cookies

You can also decorate your cookies using the same idea. Cut out your cookie using the larger heart shaped cookie cutter. Bake as directed. Once your cookie comes out the oven, use a smaller cookie cutter to decorate your heart shaped cookie. Place the smaller cookie cutter on top of the cookie. Do NOT press down on the cutter. Sprinkle sugar crystals, glaze, sprinkles, Red-hots or any of your favorite decorations inside the smaller cookie cutter. Carefully lift the smaller cookie cutter. Now you have a beautiful heart shaped cookie that also has a heart shaped design,

Get Colorful

Use your cookie cutters to cut out your heart shaped cookies. Any size will work. Bake as directed. Using your favorite color icings lightly spread a thin coat over each cookie. Be sure to completely cover the front side of the cookie. Continue icing all the cookies until you are done. This will allow the icing to have time to firm up. Once all heart shaped cookies have been iced using your favorite colors, now your can decorate. Using piping, your favorite colors, and your favorite tips, you can now have fun and be creative while adding the finishing touches to your heart shaped cookies. Use different colors draw hearts, outline your cookies, create thatches or anything else you design.

Write it Out

Use your favorite heart shaped cookie cutters to cut out your cookies and bake as directed. Once your cookies come out of the oven, allow them to cool. You may choose to ice the cookies or leave them plain. Next write out the words love, hugs, or kisses on each cookie. You can also write the letters L-O-V-E on each cookie and let your Valentine spell it out on their own!
