How to Help Your Child to Perform Well on Tests

Nneka
Let's face it; test-taking can be worrisome for many children including adults. However, it is something that parents can start early on to model and practice with their children. There are many things parents can do to help their test phobia child become a better test-taker so that he or she can get the score that makes the grade! Below are some ways to help:

Parental Involvement: Way before tests, parents need to get involved in their children's education on a regular basis so as to know what their kids are studying. If you know what your child is studying and are helping them to learn it and make it fun, they will be more apt to gain deeper understanding of the subject, thereby having a better chance of performing well on tests.

Homework Help: Help your children by keeping track of their homework. Homework really is practice of the key skills or concepts that had been thought in class. Parents should make sure they check their children's homework and help them clarify information where needed. Understanding of daily practices via homework will build a confident student who will be likely to excel on any test.

Good Night's Rest: On the night before an important test or any test for that matter, children should go to bed early as to get a good night's sleep. A well-rested body makes for a calm/relaxed individual. Do no stay up late trying to cram information, as this may backfire during a test.

Good Breakfast: Many kids come to school on empty stomach. This is a no-no! Parents must make sure they provide good breakfast for their children on a daily basis, but especially on a testing day. Food is the fuel the brain needs in order to function. I can't count how many kids come to my class complaining of headaches or stomach aches, and when I ask them if they had eaten, the answer is often a negative.

All in all, testing is here to stay. We get tested on a regular basis as adults, so we need to let kids know that this is all part of the process. There's no need to fear tests; all kids need to do is prepare the best they can and give it their best shot each time.
