How to Help Even Out Your Skin Tone Using Multiple Skin Problem Specific Cleansers

The average person uses only one cleanser for their entire face. However, most people have many different types of skin on their face. Using only one kind of skin cleanser for your entire face can save time but use of only one type of cleanser can contribute to uneven skin tone problems.

The most noticeable skin problems that lead to uneven skin tone fall into four general groups. Address these skin tone problems with targeted cleansers to help clear the problems up and even out your skin tone.

The T-Zone area of the face that includes the forehead and nose is often oily, prone to acne, redness and irritation.

If this area is a problem, or if acne or redness is a problem for you choose a cleanser with salicylic or citric acid to kill bacteria that cause these problems. Cleanser with citric acid can further help even out your skin tone by lightening dark areas of your skin, such as the area around the mouth, which can darken with age.

Dry skin contributes to uneven skin tone because skin can appear lighter and more flaky than skin on other areas of the face. Dry skin can also make wrinkles appear worse casting shadows that lead to uneven skin tone.

If dry skin is a problem for you choose a moisturizer heavy cleanser that is gentle or formulated for sensitive skin. These kinds of cleansers can plump up skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They are also often gentle enough for use on skin under and around eyes.

Age spots or darkening of larger areas of skin like the skin around the mouth can begin or increase in severity with age. Luckily, many cleansers contain ingredients such as citric acid that can help lighten these areas and even out your skin tone. Many cleansers that help lighten dark areas of skin can also help clear up acne and red or irritated skin.

Dark circles or puffiness under the eyes is one of the biggest contributors to uneven skin tone. Skin is very thin and delicate below the eyes; it is easily susceptible to bruising and welling. This problem is compounded by the eyes proximity to sinus cavities and presence of numerous blood vessels.

If dark circles or puffy areas below your eyes are a problem for you choose a gentle moisturizing cleanser that has caffeine, such as that derived from green tea. Caffeine will help to constrict blood flow in the vessels below your eyes. A cleanser that contains cucumber or aloe will also help to reduce swelling. Many of these ingredients also work very well on dry skin.

Using specific cleansers on areas of your face can take extra time, but the following tips will help you save time.

Use cleansers that do not foam very much or simply use a small amount of cleanser at a time to help keep the cleanser only on the skin you wish to cleanse with it.

You can also use small sponges to better control the area of skin you get cleanser on. I suggest that you use separate sponges for each type of cleanser to avoid cross contamination. It is also helpful to keep several wet washcloths handy. Also, use cleansers in order of harshest to gentlest that way the harshest cleanser will be removed faster.

Most cleansers can specifically target one to two common skin problems that contribute to uneven skin tone. Choose two to three cleansers based on your individual skin problems and after a couple weeks of use, your skin tone should look more even.

If you have a wide range of skin problems leading to uneven skin tone, using only one cleanser may be doing you more harm than good.
