Almost anyone who has sex knows that not having sex at all is the only completely reliable form of birth control. Whether or not you and your girlfriend use one or more of the many birth control options, there may be a time when the two of you have to deal with a pregnancy scare. As someone who has been through it, the word "scare" is an understatement - it's more like being petrified and panicked. Guys, if you and your girlfriend are going through a pregnancy scare, how you react and treat her is going to have more of a bearing than you think.
Be there for the test if she wants you there
Your girlfriend might want you there with her when she takes a pregnancy test, but don't get upset or just show up if she says she doesn't. Many girls will want their guy there, but some would just prefer to do it alone or to have a girl friend there. Leave it up to her to decide what makes her more comfortable.
Tell each other how you feel
A pregnancy scare is a lot to deal with, and the best thing for both of you to do is to communicate with each other about how you're feeling. Don't force her to open up, but let her know you're there for her when she wants to talk. Tell her how you feel as well; it can help you get the feelings off your chest and might even make her feel more comfortable about sharing what she's feeling.
Don't disappear
When some guys get upset and they're dealing with a lot, they bolt and go into hiding. This is one of the worst things you can do - even if you feel like avoiding everything and everyone, stick it out anyway. Your girlfriend will need you to be there for her, not just emotionally, but even just to be there next to her and hold her hand.
Don't make jokes about it
You might try to make jokes in order to lighten the mood of a very tense situation, but chances are your girlfriend isn't going to think it's very amusing - she's very likely going to be hurt and upset. Stick to making her feel better with positive comments.
Don't rush her to have sex
After a pregnancy scare, one of the major issues women encounter is not wanting to have sex for awhile. Don't take offense like it's something against you. She's dealing with all the emotions from the situation as well as the fear of having another pregnancy scare. Give her time to ease back into the idea of having sex. It may take a few days, even a few weeks or more, but be patient and understanding.
One of the major worries women deal with is that their guy is going to walk away from her if she's pregnant. Dealing with a pregnancy scare is frightening and your girlfriend is going to need you to be there for her just like you want her to be there for you. Show her you support her and let her know you're going to help her get through the situation.
