How to Make an Herbal Facial Cleanser

FlutterBy
This is a recipe using dried herbs, oatmeal and your favorite facial bar soap to make individual little cloths to use each time you cleanse your face. The mixture of herbs along with the oatmeal not only cleanses your skin but exfoliates as well. This is also a great project to make with children or with your friends. You only need a few ingredients and they take no time at all to make.

Chamomile - Dried chamomile flowers help to relax, soften and reduce skin inflammations. It has a sweet smell that is not overpowering.

Lavender - Dried lavender has different properties than lavender essential oil which is one of the most popular essential oils today. Dried lavender is a natural antiseptic and also relaxes your skin.

Oatmeal - Oatmeal is hypoallergenic and is the key ingredient in this recipe. It exfoliates, softens, calms, reduces redness and soothes.

Ingredients

3 bars of soap (preferably Dove)

1 ½ cups dried chamomile

½ cup of dried lavender

1 cup of oatmeal

Cheesecloth or a soft cloth that you will be cutting

A container with a lid

Instructions

1. Grate three bars of bar soap that is gentle on your skin. You can use any kind you prefer. I always use Dove since I love the smell of it and it leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and clean.

2. To the grated bar soap add 1 and a half cups of dried chamomile.

3. Add a half cup of dried lavender

4. Add 1 cup of oatmeal

5. Mix thoroughly

6. Cut your cloth into 4 or 5 inch squares

7. If using cheesecloth or a thin material then use double layers

8. Place one tablespoon of mixture onto the cloth

9. Pull the edges up and then tie with a string to seal the mixture inside

10. You can store your mixture to make more later or go ahead and make them all at once

11. After making them store in a container with a lid

12. Use one each time you wash your face.

To Use: Wet the cloth and then use to clean and exfoliate your face. Its best to clean in a circular, upwards motion to help with circulation of your skin. Throw away after each use. You can always use this mixture to make larger cloths and use as a body scrub. Research the properties of your own favorite dried herbs and play around with this recipe to make your own herbal bath products.
