In some countries, new mothers still keep their babies under wraps for as long as 40 days for fear that the defenseless beauty of the child will attract a jealous glance. The origin of lockets, popular today as jewelry, was to help ward off the evil eye, and eye makeup was originally worn to not only keep the evil eye away, but to keep the wearer from giving the evil eye to someone else. However, the most used evil eye repellent has always been part of a plant, such as fennel seed, and especially those plants we classify as herbs. Is it any wonder that herbs have such a mysterious reputation? Here is a list of herbs and plants used throughout the ages and specifically what they've been known to attract or repel. I've only listed the plants that are easy to grow in our parts. Under no circumstances should any of these plants be eaten, burned, or consumed in any way. This information is for novelty purposes only:
Alfalfa: kept in the home to protect against poverty; carried to the bank when you ask for a loan.
Althea: To attract benevolent spirits to the home and to increase psychic ability.
Barberry: Sprinkled in the paths of your enemies to keep them from following you.
Basil: Used for money and success.
Blackberry Leaves: Used to remove evil spirits from your home and return evil to a person doing you harm.
Calendula Flowers: Carry to win in court and induce prophetic lucky number dreams.
Catnip: Used to captivate your lover with your special ways. Cedar Wood Chips: Peacefully causes an unwanted person to move.
Red Clover Flowers: Used to bring a prosperous marriage.
Coriander seeds (Cilantro:) Helps draw love your way.
Dandelion Root: Enhance psychic dreams and bring second sight.
Dill Leaf: Used by folks jinxed in love.
Elderberry Flowers: Sprinkled around property to protect from criminals.
Fennel Seeds: Used for strengthening a women's courage.
Fern: Used to remove evil spirits from home.
Hawthorn Berries: Sprinkle around home to keep someone from being attracted to your spouse.
Holly Leaves: To invite helpful spirits into the home.
Horehound: To keep wild animals away from the home.
Cedar Berries: To attract physical love.
Lemon Mint: To draw a new lover.
Lemon Verbena: To cause discord between two people.
Magnolia Leaves: Placed under the mattress for happiness in marriage.
Marjoram: To drive off bad people.
Mint: To break jinxes and gain mental strength.
Oregano: Used to keep the law away or to keep troublesome in-laws away.
Peach Tree Leaf: To help students pass tests.
Periwinkle: Carried to attract money.
Roses: Given for good luck in love.
Rosemary: Protects against evil and gives a woman domination in the home.
Sage: Reverses magic spells.
Tansy: Used to protect against the government looking into your affairs.
Wormwood: Protects against the evil eye.
Yarrow: Used to increase psychic power.
