How Herbs Used in Cooking Can Benefit Your Health

Cooking Healthier with Herbs

I like to write about all of the things that we as people all have in common. Emotions, for example. We all feel the same things, just differently, with different situations. We all have families. We all use money and love to save it. We all have homes and something always needs to be fixed. Cooking is yet another one of those things. I think, for the most part, everyone cooks. We all eat, we all enjoy food, and we all should enjoy cooking. I do. I love to cook. What I love even more is taking care of my family. I cook them meals to keep them growing strong and healthy. The better it tastes and the healthier it is the happier I am.

Did you know that your common seasonings are herbs? We see them at the grocery store. Little bottles of all sorts of spices. Inside those little bottles are herbs. Many foods have herbal qualities. Adding them to the foods you are cooking enhances the flavor of the food too. It actually tastes better with seasonings added. Say your cooking hamburger. You could just simply cook it, but you'd be missing out on a whole lot of flavor. It is very simple to shake on a little seasoning. The seasonings bring out the flavor of the meat. They enhance it and make it delicious. It's like they are taking it from bland to that's so good.

Seasonings are herbs. Garlic, onions, basil, chime, cinnamon, oregano, parsley, nutmeg, pepper, and all of the others are herbs. They were all once plants. They are plants with health benefiting properties. That means that they do good things for your body, and health. Garlic, for example, can help to rid you of infection. It can actually help you to get rid of a sinus infection by attacking the infection from inside your body. It can only do this though if you eat it.

Each different herb, fruit, and vegetable has different health benefits. Each does a unique thing for your body. Some even help balance you emotionally, chemically. They more you eat of herbs, fruits, and vegetables the more health benefits you will receive. Did you know that the bag of spring salad mix you see at the store is a bag full of herbs that can benefit your health? Adding salad to your nightly meal can do wonders for your health because of this.

Apples, and all other fruits are like herbs. They have health benefits when eaten. Adding fruits to the foods you are making is just like adding seasonings to your meat or pasta dishes. For example, if you add diced up bananas, pears, and apples to jell-o when you make it will increase the health benefits your children get as they eat the jell-o. It turns a treat healthier because the fruits, like herbs, do good things for the body. Adding diced banana, or blue berries, raspberries, or blackberries to a bowl of cereal greatly increases the amount of health benefits it will provide.

All meats can benefit from being seasoned as they cook. Add some garlic, onions, mushrooms, carrots, or any other seasonings or vegetables and you increase the health benefits you get from that food. Vegetables also have herbal properties. When you use them in your cooking, like by putting them in the baking pan with them meat for example, you add to the value of the foods. The good things from the carrots, onions, potatoes, or what have you cook into the meat. When you cook the vegetables on the stove by boiling them they get drained. Where do the health benefits and nutrients go? Down the drain. You'll also save electric or propane by cooking the foods together. What's even better is the meat, and all of the seasonings also add flavor to the vegetables which are bland when not seasoned and flavored. They become healthier to eat. Better for you and tastier too.

Many people are not as healthy as they could be. Having better health is good for anyone, young or old. Parents especially want the foods they are serving to be healthier. The way to make your food healthier and better for you is to use seasonings, herbs and spices. Use fruits on cereal, in milkshakes, anywhere they can go. Cook vegetables with your meat for delicious flavor and health benefits too. Use garlic on everything from meats to pasta to prevent and help rid infections. Thanks for reading and take care!
