How to Have a Hippie Game Night

Peace, Love, and Games!

Game night with my friends is the highlight of my week. We've even named our game night, Sunday Funday. It's a time for us all to come together, relax, laugh, and recuperate before the stress of the week takes hold. This article will walk you through everything you need to know to prepare a hippie game night from food and drinks to games and music.

When organizing your hippie game night, remember- the more the merrier! So tell everyone that they're more than welcome to bring friends. This makes game time way more fun and gives close friends a chance to meet each other. If you're going to have a recurring game night, it's best to decide how to handle the snacks ahead of time. Is everyone going to pitch in money to pay for snacks? Is there going to be a rotation of who brings the snacks? The choice is yours. In our group, people usually just bring whatever they can whenever they can, which might mean bringing beer one week, taking a week off, and bringing chips the next week. Some good snack choices are generally in the category of finger foods- chips and salsa, pitas and hummus, vegetable trays, sushi, and pizza (make sure you have napkins!). As far as drinks go, beer is usually our drink of choice although we have juice available too. Hornsbys, Red Stripe, Blue Moon, and Landshark are typically the variety we have on hand.

When picking the games, try to get creative and stick with your theme. Our theme is peace, love, and games so our number one game is the little-known Aquarius and boy, is it addicting! This card game consists of "elements" and each person has an "element" that is also their goal. The elements are rainbows, pastures, fire, water, and outer space. The goal is to connect 7 of your elements. This game is meant for a smaller group (5 max), but there are other games that are suited for a larger group. Bananagrams is a fun game that's kind of like Scrabble. Everyone picks a certain number of tiles (with a letter of the alphabet on each) then they try to make their own personal scrabble board of words. When the first person runs our of tiles they say "peel" and everyone grabs one more tile. The game goes until there are no tiles left in the center and someone has used all their tiles to form words. When they're done they yell "Bananagrams!"

Music is important to set the vibe of the evening. Make sure you choose music that everyone will like and that will promote good feelings during game night. We usually listen to Damian Marley, Tribal Seeds, Iron & Wine, and Matisyahu to name a few, but this choice is entirely up to you!

Hippie game nights are a wonderful way to bring people together. Ours have gotten so popular that other people have begun their own and people seek us out to ask if they can come to our Sunday Funday. The point of it all is to have fun with your friends and make lasting memories. That's the whole idea behind peace, love, and games! I hope you enjoy your hippie game night as much as we enjoy ours!
