Ok, so let's see what kinds of hobbies can generate some extra cash. The most obvious ones are where you are making something or performing a service. Not every item making hobby will generate an income where you will come out ahead. For example if you are into woodworking, making furniture may or may not be a profitable income generator. It would depend on how unique your item is and the cost of the materials to make it. Making items to sell at craft fairs are not doing well at this point in time, that is due mainly to lack of extra spending money many people have. What you should be looking at is where people are spending money. Right now they are still spending money on weddings so that means that wedding gowns, flowers and photography will still be in demand. The home décor market is still down but spending on pets is up.
Since weddings and pets are still in demand then sewing, dog walking, flowers and pet sitting are all good ideas. I have found a few websites that can provide you will some of the things you will need to know.
First up is sewing. At Sewing for Cash you can learn how to turn your sewing hobby into a great little business. The site has a great email newsletter and a free 10 part series on "How to start your sewing business on a shoestring," which is only available to subscribers to their newsletter.
Next is a small but growing site on growing orchids for profit, called Growing orchids for fun and profit. You can find that website at http://makemoneywithorchids.blogspot.com/ Orchids are one of the more profitable flower growing niches. Orchid flowers often sell for a few dollars each at the wholesale level. If you have some experience at wedding bouquet design and grow your own orchids for them then you can see where a good part time income can be generated.
If you are good with dogs and cats and don't have many busy weekends then pet sitting might be a great idea for you to look into. Keep in mind that pet sitters will be in demand for weekends and holidays so if you don't want to work those times then you business will be very limited.
Good at taking photos? Small businesses need you. They need people to stage and take photos of their products for the internet. You can find many of the business looking for someone to take photos for eBay or their own website by doing a search on craigslist or on Twitter.
There you have a start of just a few ideas to go with.
