How to Make Holiday Treat Cones

Rachel Soden
Are you looking for an inexpensive treat to add to your Christmas presents this year? Want to give out food for presents at work but don't want to put a lot of time into it? Consider giving out hot chocolate cones this year. They are a way to put all the ingredients necessary for making hot chocolate in an attractive packaging.

Here's a quick recipe for making hot chocolate cones.

1. Gather all the supplies you will need. For this project you will need 2 pastry bags, 1 sandwich bag, hot chocolate, marshmallows, some type of colorful chocolate candy such as M&Ms, ribbon, a tag and a twist tie.

2. Take one of the pastry bags and cut about 1/3 off the top. Fill it with hot chocolate and tie the end off the twist tie.

3. Place the hot chocolate inside the other pastry bag so that the hot chocolate is in the pointed end on the bottom.

4. Pour some of the chocolate candy on top of the hot chocolate making sure to leave enough room for the marshmallows.

5. Put some marshmallows in the sandwich baggie and place it at the top of the cone.

6. Tie it off with a piece of ribbon with a tag attached to it.

The benefit to these cones is that you can do so much more than just use hot chocolate. You can use this to put candy, coffee, ingredients for brownies or other recipes, etc. The ideas are limited only by your imagination.

Tips

-I would recommend putting a rubber band around the top of the closed cone. Then surround it with ribbon. This will guarantee that it will remain closed.

-Make sure to hide the twist tie on the hot chocolate well enough. Don't want that poking through!

-Make a whole bunch, put them in a basket and leave them in the break room on a cold winter day.

-Have your kids help you make them.

-The pastry bags can be found at Wal-Mart. I found them in the wedding craft aisle. You can also find them at many craft stores such as Michaels or at the cake and candy supply store.

For the example in the picture, I added a tag with the following poem:

I hear you've been naughty,

So listen, here's the scoop...

I'm running short on coal this year,

So you get "Snowman Poop"
