It's that time of the year again. St. Valentine's Day. A day to show love and affection. Valentine's Day is the holiday of love. For parents it is time to either make or buy Valentine's Day cards for their children's classmates.

Schools almost always celebrate holidays. Valentine's Day is no exception. Teachers often throw classroom parties for Valentine's Day. They have snacks and treats, and a special time to pass out Valentine's Day cards.

Valentine's Day cards don't come cheap when you buy them at the store. The popular ones that kids want can cost an arm and a leg. The more children you have that will need them the more you will spend. In these tight financial times parents all over the country are looking for ways to save a few dollars. Making home made Valentine's Day cards can do just that.

When you make your own homemade Valentine's Day cards you will not only be saving money, you will also be sharing some special quality time with your children. Any craft or project that parents do with their children will create memories that will last a lifetime. Homemade items are more special too. They are made with love. People, even children, always appreciate anything that was made just for them.

It is very possible that you already have all of the things that you'll need to make the cards with. Supplies include but are not limited to a glue stick, or Elmer's glue, red, pink, and white paper, scissors, doilies, tin foil, and markers. The supply options are endless though. Really, you can use anything to decorate Valentine's Day cards with, from scraps of lace to non traditional colors of paper. Valentine's don't have to be pink, red or white.

Most children have about twenty kids in their class. To make twenty Valentine's Day cards you'll need to start with five pieces of paper. Take each sheet of paper and fold it in half. Then fold it in half again. You'll fold the paper from top to bottom, then from side to side.

When you're done folding open the paper up. You'll have create crease lines which divide the paper into four equal sections. Those four sections equal four cards. Cut along the creases and then fold each of the four sections in half. Do this with five sheets of paper to create twenty cards.

Once all of the cards are formed it's time to decorate. Decorating has no limits or boundaries. Kids can draw hearts or pictures on the cards themselves using markers, crayons, or colored pencils. Glitter glue, or glitter and glue are also fun and decorative. Cut out heart can easily be made by taking a piece of colored paper and folding it in half from side to side several times. Cut a half of a heart out of the folded paper on the fold. Do this several times down the paper. You'll end up with a whole bunch of tiny hearts. Using tin foil for this makes a whole bunch of pretty little shiny hearts which add shine and personality to home made Valentine's.

To adhere the hearts to the cards simply use a glue stick, or a bottle of Elmer's glue. A little goes a long way. You can also glue on doilies or scraps of lace.

Once the cards are decorated all that's left to do is write on them. Teachers usually send home a list of names of all of the children in your child's class. Have your children write a classmates name on each card, and also their own. To and from. To the classmate from your child. Make sure that each classmate get's a card by double checking and crossing names off of the list as you do. Don't forget to make a card for your child's teacher too. They are always adored and appreciated. Thanks for reading and take care!
