How to Use Home Remedies to Treat a Hangover

So you like to drink but hate those nasty hangovers. Hangovers are the reason I quit drinking. I figured having a night of fun wasn't worth what I had to go through the next day. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, and fatigue. A hangover is caused by the toxins in your body from too much alcohol consumption, dehydration, and Vitamins A, B, and C depletion. If you still want to drink but don't want to deal with a hangover, try using home remedies to treat a hangover.

Home Remedies for a Hangover: Bananas

When you are drinking too much and peeing a lot, you are losing lots of potassium. Eat bananas to replace the potassium you lost when drinking and to help bring yourself back to feeling like your old self again. Bananas also help ease a hangover by giving you the magnesium you need to get rid of that pounding headache. Bananas also have a natural antacid effect to help the nausea.

Home Remedies for a Hangover: Cola or Coffee

A can of cola or a hot cup of coffee will help ease your hangover three ways. The fizz from the acid in cola will help relieve nausea, the liquid from cola or coffee will help with the dehydration, and the caffeine will help give you more energy to bring you back to your old self.

Home Remedies for a Hangover: Dry Toast

Eat a piece of dry toast to help relieve the nausea caused by a hangover. As much as you don't feel like eating, you will need to put something on your stomach and a piece of dry toast will be easy to get down. Don't use butter or peanut butter because it will only make the nausea worse.

Home Remedies for a Hangover: Vitamin C

Replace the Vitamin C you lost when drinking to help ease the symptoms of a hangover. Drink orange juice, tomato juice, or take a vitamin C tablet to give yourself some vitamin C. This may not get rid of the hangover altogether but it can help ease the symptoms a little bit.

Home Remedies for a Hangover: Hot Bath

Take a hot bath to help get rid of the toxins in your body. The steam from the hot bath will make you sweat out the toxins you put in your body by drinking too much. The hot bath will also help you relax and help ease the symptoms caused by a hangover.

Home Remedies for a Hangover: Ginger Root

Ginger is a very good remedy for seasickness and having a hangover is like being seasick. Drink a can of ginger ale or make some ginger tea if you can stand up long enough. To make ginger tea, cut 10 to 12 slices of fresh ginger root and mix it with four cups of boiling water. Boil for ten minutes, strain and add the juice of one orange, the juice from half a lemon and ½ cup of honey to taste. Drink ginger ale or ginger tea to help ease nausea caused by a hangover.
