How to Make Homemade Baby Oil

Dena E. Bolton
Baby oil is always chosen to use on sensitive baby skin to keep it moist and smooth. We adults also know that it is great for our grown-up skin, too. For example, I use a capful of baby oil in my bath water to alleviate dry skin. You can also use it after baths and showers to moisturize your skin or any time to quickly and effectively treat dry skin. It is quite easy to make your own homemade baby oil. By doing so, you can also add fragrances to suit your mood and/or personal tastes. In addition, you can add certain essential oils to treat specific skin conditions, such as eczema.

Ingredients:

1 bottle mineral oil

1-2 capsules vitamin E

Essential oil (optional)

Step 1: Pour the mineral oil into a dark-colored bottle. This will help to preserve your baby oil longer.

Step 2: Cut or break open the vitamin E capsule(s) and pour the contents into the mineral oil. Vitamin E is not only a good skin conditioner, it also acts as a natural preservative.

Step 3: Add a few drops (generally 1-3 or even more if you prefer) of the essential oil of your choice.

Tips:

Add 3 tablespoons of sweet almond oil and 1 teaspoon of evening primrose oil for daily use.

If you are plagued by eczema, add 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil, 1 teaspoon evening primrose oil, and 2 drops of essential oil of German chamomile.

For skin frequently exposed to the sun, break open an aloe vera plant and add a few drops of the gel to your mineral oil.

Warnings:

Always test a small patch of skin before using any essential oils.
