How to Make Homemade Baked Tortilla Chips

Patti Winters
With the price of groceries steadily rising, why not try your hand at making your own Tortilla Chips? Maybe you're curious about how to do it, and would like to try it once in a while. You may even be like me and want to reduce the processed foods in your family's diet. Additionally they are baked to reduce fat, and since you are making them from scratch you can control the quality of ingredients you use. This is such a quick and easy recipe that anyone can do. Just grab a few simple ingredients and let's start baking.

Ingredients:

* 1 package of 6 inch Corn Tortillas
* 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
* Salt

Directions:

* Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
* To reduce the need for additional fats and oil, line 2 baking sheets with nonstick foil or parchment paper.
* Brush both sides of each tortilla with extra virgin olive oil (this is a healthy oil, and in moderation is good for us), by using a pastry brush. Then, cut tortillas into quarters with a knife or pizza cutter.
* Bake tortilla pieces in a single layer on prepared baking sheets until chips are crisp and golden, this will take about 12 to 16 minutes.
* If desired, sprinkle with salt, pepper or other seasoning while the tortilla chips are still warm.
* Serve immediately with your favorite salsa or dip. These chips can also be kept warm in the oven on low or warm.
