Jason Cooley
A Homemade cat toy is easy to make especially because anything that moves can become a toy for a cat. If you have a couple minutes of free time there is no reason to go shopping for pre made cat toys. Making homemade cat toys can be a lot of fun and is a great activity to do with the kids. The most fun and rewarding part about making homemade cat toys is the creative process of figuring out what your cat would like and how to bring that idea to life. I'll get you started with an easy "how to" walk through that will give you a good example of what the process entails.

Here I will tell you how to make a homemade version of a classic cat toy. I'm not sure the exact name of this cat toy but I'm going to refer to it as the Cat Fishing Pole because it looks and acts as a fishing pole for catching cats. I'm sure this isn't the official name for this cat toy, but I'm pretty sure this cat toy doesn't have an official name. It's basically a pole with string and something for the cat to hit at the end that I like to think of as a little piece of bait.

Homemade Cat Fishing Pole:

What you will need:

1) One stick or handle

2) One long piece of string

3) One short piece of string

4) One piece of paper

5) Scissors

Step 1- Tie the long piece of string to the end of the handle. We will refer to this as the "Fishing Pole" in later steps.

Step 2- Fold the piece of paper in half and cut upwards about 2 inches on both sides of the open ended side of the paper. Make each strip about an inch wide. The paper should look like fanned out strips.

Step 3- Unfold the paper. There should be strips on each side of the paper and a fold in the middle.

Step 4- Grab the Center of the paper and crinkle it into a ball be sure to make an indent between the crinkled top and the shredded bottom. It should look kind of like a snowman.

Step 5- Tie the short string around the center of the "Snowman". Make sure the string stays tight.

Step 6- Tie the free end of the string of the "Fishing Pole" to the "Snowman".

There you have it, an easy to make homemade cat toy in just six easy steps.

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
