How to Make Homemade Chicken Soup to Treat Colds and Flu

Jeanne Marie Kerns
If one of your children or even you have the beginning signs of a cold or flu, try this perfect recipe for chicken soup that will make you feel better as soon as your done eating it.

Get a large pot and place your washed, whole chicken inside of it. Turn the heat on to medium high and allow the chicken to crisp up on all sides. Do not add anything to the pot until all side of the chicken are browned a little.

Once the chicken has been browned on all sides, add 3 teaspoons of salt, 3 teaspoons of pepper, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning and 7 cups of cold water. Allow to come to a boil with the lid on. Once it has come to a boil, turn the heat down to medium low. Cook the chicken for one hour and turn heat off. Allow to cool and take chicken out and place inside of a bowl. Set aside.

Now leave the broth inside of the pot. Take a spoon and give it a taste. Now is the time to add any additional seasoning before adding the vegetables. Cut up the onions, celery, green beans and carrots into bite size pieces and place into chicken broth. Stir, simmer and cover.

While the vegetables are cooking in the broth, take the chicken and begin to pull the meat off of the bone. Place all the chicken into the broth and mix well. Add one half cup of lemon juice and stir. Put the top on the pot and put on medium low.

Cook your lasagna noodles as you would any other noodles. Once done, run under cold water and chop noodles roughly. Do not at anytime cook your noodles in the broth. This will make the noodles all gummy and take most of your broth away. Once done chopping, place noodles inside chicken soup and mix well.

Once everything is all warmed up, get out a few bowls and start handing it out to the sick ones. Try and have them eat a little every few hours. I can guarantee you will and the rest will be feeling better in no time.
