How to Make Homemade Christmas Wrapping Paper

Creating Wrapping Paper for Cheap

Have you ever ran out to the store to try and get wrapping paper and all they have is some boring print? Or the paper is so expensive you break your wallet trying to wrap every little present? Well this article will explain how to create wrapping paper without having to spend too much money!

When you go grocery shopping, ask for paper bags instead of plastic. This way you can make different types of wrapping paper. You will also need to buy a few newspapers or grab the free local Buyers Guide and start thinking away. You can decorate these very differently.

With stamps and ink the best paper is the bag. It shows up better and a lot more clearer. You can use different colors, patterns and even characters. A nice personal touch is to use the persons name; that gives it a warm feel. Kids can do this very easily and young children can have a lot of fun helping out.

Another great way to design wrapping paper is to paint the newspaper or bags with watercolor paints. They show up okay and can turn into any scene. For Christmas a Santa scene or manger scene would be very neat and appropriate! You can paint birthday scenes or wedding scenes, any event that needs wrapping paper can be done very easily this way! I wouldn't suggest letting toddlers do this unless the gift is coming from them to say, a grandparent whom would love a multi-colored blob!

To make unique scenes that don't get the table messy can be made with crayons, markers or colored pencils. Once again doing this would be best on a paper bag. This is also great at all events because any scene can be drawn with these products. Stencils can also be used in conjunction with these tools to create the perfect wrapping paper! This is great for kids to help with because they learn to be neat faster with crayons than a paintbrush.

If you don't have to time to draw anything up or stop and get wrapping paper at a store, the comic section usually works well. A great way to personalize the paper without having to change it into anything is to use a section of newspaper that the gift receiver likes. For a wedding you could use the wedding announcement page and for a baby shower, birth announcements would work wonderfully.

If you want extravagant paper, sparkles, glues, paints, stickers and anything very crafty would work well. This could be a paper for anything, just give either a bag or a newspaper some glam and you're off the races! For a little diva, a bag decorated with sparkles and stickers of purses and shoes would work great. A gift for grandma could be made from all of the kids just decorating from the heart.

Decorating paper bags and newspapers takes a little time but that's why it's so nice to get a gift in one. It makes the gift receiver know that it took time and energy and not just a trip to the store to buy some machine made wrapping paper. If you have the time and creativeness then this is a great winter project to do!

A very well written piece. I have used aluminum foil in the past when I ran out of "real" paper. Great craft ideas!

Good tips! I've always loved gifts with homemade touches. I have a friend that makes gift tags out of paper combinations. They are so beautiful you don't want to throw them away!
