How to Make a Homemade, Decorative Kitchen Scissors Holder

Kassidy Emmerson
Are you looking for a handy place to store your kitchen scissors? (Or any of your household scissors, for that matter.) You can learn how to make a homemade, decorative kitchen scissors holder in just a few minutes, and brighten up your home. Or, make these crafts to give away as presents, sell at church bazaars and at craft shows.

Materials You'll Need
Not only is this craft project quick and easy, but the materials you'll need are few. You'll need a colorful hot pad, preferably one that will complement your kitchen. It needs to be square. A hot pad that measures six or seven inches square works well.

And, you'll need a button, needle and thread, and some decorations. These can include ribbons, sprigs of plastic or silk flowers, fake leaves- any kind of doo dads you choose to spruce your homemade kitchen scissors holder up with.

Steps In This Project
1. The first step is to lay the hot pad out flat on a hard surface. Make sure the hanging loop is at the top. (Meaning you'll be looking at a diamond. A corner of the hot pad will be at the top, bottom, left, and right side.)

2. The second step to make a homemade, decorative kitchen scissors holder is to take hold of the left side of the pot holder. Pull the edge over to the middle; hold it in place with a finger. Then, grab the right edge and pull it over on top. Adjust the sides so the opening in the top of the kitchen scissors holder is slightly larger than the opening in the bottom. You can do this by moving the sides up or down just a bit.

At this point, you should hold the hot pad holder together and check to make sure your kitchen scissors are going to fit. Carefully slide them in through the top. Make any adjustments to the sides, then remove the scissors. Use a couple straight pins to hold the sides of your homemade, decorative kitchen scissors holder in place.

3. Get your needle and thread ready to sew. Then, position the button about a half inch in from the edge of the right side (the side that's on the top). Hold the button in place while you reach in from the top with the needle. Make sure you sew through all the pieces of fabric while you attach the button securely.

4. Now comes the fun part! You can decorate your homemade, decorative kitchen scissors holder any way you wish. The holder in the picture was left plain because it was hung up against a patterned wallpaper. There's a bit of pink color- the same color as the hot pad- in the wallpaper, so it will help bring it out.

I also have to add that the scissors you see in the picture aren't the original ones the holder were made for. These are a tad too big to fit correctly. But, still, you get the idea.
