How to Make Home-made Ketchup

Earl Brooks
Heinz and Hunts may make decent ketchup already but considering we put ketchup on everything these days why not eat the ketchup you deserve. And the best part is you probably already have all of the ingredients in your cupboard.

This recipe may be a bit sweet for some, but you can easily adjust the brown sugar and vinegar amounts to suit your tastes.

This Ketchup Recipe yields approximately one bottle of ketchup.

Home-made Ketchup Recipe

4 lbs Tomatoes
1 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
3 Cloves Garlic
1 tsp. Salt
1 stick Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Pepper
1/2 tsp. Cayenne Pepper
1 cup Cider Vinegar
1/2 tsp. All Spice
2 tbls. Corn Starch

1. Coarsely chop tomatoes in a food processor.

2. Combine all ingredients except the corn starch in a large sauce pan.

3. Simmer on medium heat for 30 minutes.

4. Let cool for a few minutes and drain through a sieve into a bowl. Push firmly on tomatoes to squeeze as much tomato juice through as possible this will become your ketchup.

5. Pour ketchup in the bowl into a smaller sauce pan.

6. Reheat ketchup to a simmer then add corn starch, and continue to simmer 10 mins.

7. Allow ketchup to cool to room temperature then bottle.
