All that you need to get started is an old wire coat-hanger, a few sheets of heavy duty construction paper in your favorite colors, glue and a little bit of yarn. You also want to be sure to have some stuff to spice up your final product such as crayons, markers and possibly even a little glitter or some stickers.
The first step in creating your homemade kite mobile is to start cutting out some kite shapes. To do this you will want to make six diamond shapes from your construction paper. You may make these any size but it tends to look best if you use a full sheet of paper for each diamond, which is the shape of a kite, and if you either use all different colors or pick out a color scheme to rotate through.
Your kid and you should now go town decorating your kites; spare no expense! Color your favorite shapes or characters and feel free to chalk them full of random stickers and glue. If you have some extra tools to work with, such as paint, feel free to get a little splatter painting done on a couple of them. Or, Ii you're looking for a more grown up approach, try alternating patterns on every other 'kite' that you have cut out.
Once all of your kites are decorated to your preference it is time to cut pieces of yarn to be kite tails. If you have elected to go with full sized diamonds for your kites then consider a kite tail length of five to eight inches. You may affix these in any fashion you see fit although a staple is easiest.
To finish off your individual kites it is time to cut one bow shape out for each tail, this gives you another opportunity to continue your pattern or get even wackier with it. You can do anything from crazy shapes to the standard bow-tie shape here, whatever suits your overall image of your kite mobile. These may, again, be attached via a staple or whatever medium you use to attach the tails to the kites.
This is where your old coat-hanger comes into the picture. Cut out sixth lengths of yarn and use them to anchor each kite individually to your coat-hanger. You may be as creative as you wish here but a word of warning - if they are very uneven lengths your kite mobile will be lopsided so it recommend that you keep them all within one to two inches in length of one another.
That's all that there is to quickly and easily building your very own homemade kite mobile; just hang it up wherever you please and enjoy your newest, simplest and aesthetically pleasing home decoration.
