How to Make a Homemade Meatball Pizza

Karen Barnes

This is how and why I made a homemade meatball pizza recently. I had leftover meatballs I froze from a spaghetti dinner I had made a few weeks ago. Having leftover meatballs sometimes happens depending on the size I make them. The size I made this time normally leaves some left over.

Ingredients

Homemade meatball recipe
Quick homemade pizza sauce recipe
Shredded mozzarella cheese or shredded pizza cheese
Pizza crust - boxed, homemade or prepackaged
Pizza pan or cookie sheet - which ever one you have on hand
Sliced black olives, chopped onions and peppers, and sliced mushrooms (optional)

Homemade Meatball Recipe

1 pound of lean ground beef
1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
1 cup italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 small chopped onion
1 egg
1/2 tsp Olive or other oil - just enough to keep the meatballs from sticking to the skillet
Large skillet

In a medium to large bowl, mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. Make meatballs approximately one inch in diameter. Heat the oil in the skillet. Carefully place the meatballs in the skillet leaving enough spacing to turn. Turn the meatballs every few minutes to brown on all sides and cooking through.

Cool enough to be able to handle with your hands.

NOTE: You may need to cook two or batches batches depending on how large of skillet you have on hand. I wouldn't recommend baking the meatballs this time for those who cook their meatballs using this method as they will make it to the oven in the next step.

Quick Homemade Pizza Sauce

1 small can of tomato sauce
1 tablespoon of dried Italian seasoning

Mix the tomato sauce and seasoning in a measuring cup for easier pouring.

Pizza Crust - I used a store bought premade pizza crust this time since I had leftover meatballs from a spaghetti dinner.

Building the meatball pizza

Place the pizza crust on a pizza pan. Pour some of the pizza sauce onto the crust, spread out using a spatula or the back of a spoon; add more if needed.

NOTE: How much pizza sauce is up to you. You can use the whole amount or not. If you have any left over, pour it into a freezer bag or other container and freeze for future use for a pizza or spaghetti.

Add the whole meatballs, the olives, onions, peppers, mushrooms and cover with the amount of cheese you want on your pizza.

Bake in a 400 degree oven until cheese is melted and brown. Time is approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on your stove.
