How to Make a Homemade Menorah for Hanukkah

Nick Mayer
If you are looking for a project to work on this Hanukkah, making a homemade Menorah should be on the top of your list. This homemade Menorah can be used for many years to come every December. Each year you can celebrate Hanukkah by lighting each candle on the Menorah that you have made yourself. It can also be a great project for children to work on during December and will be a great addition to the Hanukkah decorations.

The most important step in making a homemade menorah is to find all of the necessary supplies. To make your homemade menorah this Hanukkah you will need to have votive candles, a saw, sandpaper, spray paint, a block of wood, glass votive candle holders, and primer. These supplies are essential in making a homemade menorah for celebrating Hanukkah this December.

After getting all of your supplies for your Menorah, you get to actually start working on it. The first step is to mark seven evenly spaced points along your block of wood. Be sure that your block is large enough to be shaped into your Menorah. These seven points will obviously serve as where your candles will be lit so these are important to be perfectly even if you want your homemade Menorah to look good this Hanukkah.

You then need to find where the base of the Menorah will be and smooth that out and carve a rough outline of your Menorah using a saw. At this point, your Menorah will not look very good; it will look very rough and will look like more of a silhouette of a Menorah than an actual homemade Menorah. This is the step, though, that you will create your base to what your homemade Menorah will look like.

After you carve your Menorah, it is time to sand down your Menorah with your sandpaper. This step may take a while depending on how detailed you want your homemade Menorah to be. You can add designs to your Menorah by sanding them down to create different detailed designs on either the base, shaft or candle holders.

Once the homemade Menorah is created, it is time to decorate and make it look a little more appealing. This can be done by applying the primer. Once this dries you can paint the newly finished homemade Menorah for Hanukkah. This adds a greater appeal to the Menorah and will look great in your living room, kitchen table, bathroom, or where ever you decide to place the newly created Menorah for Hanukkah this December.
