Tips for Making Your Own Organic Mosquito Repellent

Making your own organic and natural mosquito repellent is really quite simple, and much safer for your entire family than store bought repellents that are loaded with harmful chemicals. There are many different ways that you can make a natural mosquito repellent that can be used without worry of how harmful it may be.

No one likes getting bit my annoying mosquitoes, and now there is a real concern with mosquito bites due to West Nile Virus. Many people are concerned with using chemically laden products designed to repel mosquitoes and other insects due to the negative effects that the chemicals can have on their skin and respiratory system.

Fortunately, making your own natural mosquito repellent is very easy, and requires very few ingredients. Many of these ingredients can be found at your local health food store or ordered online very cheaply.

Natural Mosquito Repellent Number One: To make this organic mosquito repellent, you will need 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil, 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, and 25 drops of Lemon Balm (Citronella) essential oil.

Combine all of the ingredients in a jar and shake well to blend. You can leave the mixture directly in the jar and just dab a few drops on to your skin or you can place it in a misting spray bottle, and spray onto your skin.

Natural Mosquito Repellent Number Two: To make this organic mosquito repellent, you will need 1 cup of 190 proof grain alcohol, 1 teaspoon Lemon essential oil, 1 teaspoon Rosemary essential oil and ½ teaspoon Lemon Balm (Citronella) essential oil.

Place all ingredients into a jar, and shake well to blend. Dab onto skin, or put into a misting bottle and spray on.

Natural Mosquito Repellent Number Three: This organic mosquito repellent requires ½ cup Vodka, ½ cup Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 tablespoons Lemon Balm (Citronella) essential oil.

Place all ingredients into a jar, and shake to mix thoroughly. Dab the mixture onto the skin, or put into a misting spray bottle and spray directly onto skin and clothing.

While it may be tempting to mix up a large batch of natural and organic mosquito repellent all at once, the mixture can loose it's effectiveness over time. You should never mix more than you can use in a 3-4 month period, so that you ensure that it stays fresh and effective and keeping mosquitoes and other insects away.

Use caution when using an alcohol base in your homemade natural mosquito repellent, since alcohol can dry the skin if used too frequently. Natural Mosquito Repellent Number One which has an oil base is much safer to use on the skin, as it will not have this drying property, and will in fact help to keep skin moisturized and soft.
