How to Make Homemade Pancakes

How to Make Pancakes from Scratch

Dee Davis
I love to bake; it is one of my most favorite of all hobbies. One can often find me in the kitchen experimenting with different family recipes and so on. I have been making pancakes for many years now. However, like most people I have my moments when I like to bake and others when I don't. Everyone has the ability to bake, whether it is the pre-made croissant dough from a Pillsbury container or the occasional cookies prepared for a bake sale or otherwise; we all have that baker in us.

My mom always says that "good food makes for good mates and good conversations," and looking back now I must say that this saying is very true. I have witnessed this many times over in my life and I can honestly say that breakfast and dinner are some of the most joyous moments of the day where we can get together with much food and laughter. More importantly, we can really spend quality time together sharing our experiences of the day. In this article I will be sharing my most favorite of all breakfast treats.

INGREDIENTS: Yields 6-8 medium sized pancakes.

1 cup flour
3 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg
1/2 cup of milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon powder (optional)
1/2 cup of pecan nuts (optional)

UTENSILS:

Large pan
wooden spoon
whisk
small bowl
Pam spray or vegetable/olive oil

TOPPINGS:

Blueberry, strawberry or bananas (thinly sliced)
maple or pancake syrup
butter or margarine

DIRECTIONS:

Step 1: First combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a small bowl.

Step 2: Whisk egg until it's a pale yellow color.

Step 3: Add a 1/2 cup of milk to egg and continue whisking, until it's uniform in it's composition.

Step 4: Then combine flour mixture with whisked egg and milk and stir. Continue stirring with a small wooden spoon until the batter is a uniform texture.

Step 5: Let batter rest for 3 or four minutes.

Step 6: Preheat frying pan at medium-low heat.

Step 7: Then spray Pam sparingly on the bottom of the sauce pan.

Step 8: Gradually pour batter into pan (to desired size).

Step 9: Let the batter bake until the bubbles rise. Then wait until at least 3 bubbles break.

Step10: Lastly, flip pancake onto the other side and wait 30 seconds, then transfer to plate.

Step11: Repeat steps 7 to 10 until you have used up the entire batter. Serve pancakes with butter and pancake syrup. Bon Appetite!

TIPS:
1. Add ingredients to taste.
2. Add freshly cut bananas, blueberries or strawberries if desired. It really adds to taste and also serves up a balanced breakfast.
