How to Make Homemade Sticky Rice

You want to buy Japanese rice which is short grain rice, you can find this in your local supermarket, instead of the regular long grain rice due to the fact that it sticks together much better.

What you will need:

3 cups of Japanese rice (depending on how much you want to make).

3 ½ cups of water

1/3 cup of rice vinegar

2 tablespoons of sugar

1 tablespoon of salt

To remove the dust and residue off of the rice you should rinse the rice till the water runs clear, then let it drain for 30 to 60 minutes. Next put the rice and water into a large pot and bring to a boil, then set the heat to low and cover with a lid and let sit for 15 minutes, then remove the lid and place a kitchen town over the rice and let sit for another 15 minutes. This process allows the rice to properly steam. Gently fold over the rice, to not stir or the rice may become smashed.

In a small saucepan on low heat on the stovetop you will need to bring the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt together, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves then set it aside to cool.

Place the rice into a large bowl then slowly sprinkle on all of the rice vinegar mix, mixing it lightly to avoid smashing the rice. Fanning the rice helps it cool as well as makes it shiny. Sticky rice should feel slightly sticky and chewy, and is great for making sushi with. Best if used within an hour.

Now you have your great tasting, healthy sticky rice that is great in many recipes, especially great for making sushi. There are many sticky rice recipes you can find online as well as tips.
