How to Make Homemade Tea Party Invitations

Sally Albright
When you think about homemade invitations do you imagine card stock, a computer, and a printer? Get imaginative! There are so many fun and funky ways to create handmade tea party invitations which don't involve graphics and a printer. Here are a few ideas that you might not have thought of to make your own tea party invites.

Packet Invitations

When you go to the craft store you can find little packets that people will typically stuff potpourri into to use as sachets for dresser drawers and closet spaces. You can use these little packets as your tea party invitation. Simply write out your party details on a note card and attach the packet using a hole punch and some pretty ribbon. Instruct each guest to bring a tea bag, in a flavor of their choosing, to the party inside of the packet. When they come in the door they can place their packet with the tea bag into a tea pot. You can mix up the bags and each guest can grab a bag before they leave. You can make a small mark, that is different on each one, so that nobody ends up taking home their own tea bag.

A Flower and a Note

If you enjoy hand delivering your tea party invitations you can tie a note with all of the party details around a flower stem and deliver it to your guests' doors. Even if they are not home you can leave the floor sitting on the front porch. Who doesn't like to receive flowers? If you rather make it even more homemade you can make inexpensive tissue paper flowers to attach the invitation to.

Embroidered Napkins

If you are handy with a sewing machine, or can sew by hand, you can embroidered a nice fabric napkin with the names of your guests and the time and date of your tea party. Not only will this make a unique tea party invitation but your guests will have a nice keepsake from your tea party that they will cherish for many years. They can bring the napkin along with them to any future tea parties as well.

Recipe Cards

Planning on serving homemade cookies or scones at your tea party? You are bound to get requests for your recipe from guests. Why not give them the recipe(s) ahead of time as part of their invitation. You can print the recipe onto one side of an index card and the tea party details on the other side. You can personalize these recipe cards with stamps or stickers that relate to your tea party theme. You can make origami envelopes fit perfectly to size with your recipe cards and write the tea party invitation details on the envelope instead of on the card in case you run out of room.

As you can see you can come up with some more unique ways of making homemade tea party invitations that will impress your guests even before the party starts.
