How to Honor Your U. S. Army Veteran DadThis Father's Day

Freedom Team Salute

Jill Davidson
My dad recently received his Freedom Team Salute award, a recognition of his service to our country as a soldier in the United States Army. Trained as a first-line medic and stationed in Germany during the Cold War era, he and his fellow medics were blessed to never have to practice their healing arts in a war situation.

Honor your own U.S. Army veteran dad by submitting his name, rank, and current address to FreedomTeamSalute.com. This program, which is a joint venture of the offices of the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff, "exists to recognize the enduring bond between Soldiers, family, Community, and Veterans. It celebrates the sacrifices made by those who support America's Soldiers. Freedom Team Salute honors the millions of Army Veterans who have served and is a living connection to the ideals of duty, honor, and patriotism." (Freedom Team Salute home page)

Anyone, whether military or civilian, can submit the name of an honorably discharged army veteran or army supporter (any person who has contributed to the mission of the U.S. Army). Active duty soldiers may honor their parents or spouse. U. S. Army veterans and supporters may be honored by anyone who chooses to do so.

The program is funded by the U. S. Army and there is no fee to submit the names of army veterans or supporters. The package includes a personalized letter and certificate appreciation, two U. S. Army window decals, and an attractive lapel pin. Delivery takes three to four weeks, so you won't be able to surprise your dad with his award as a Father's Day gift. Take him out for a steak and a beer. It's the least you can do for a man who was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

Great article! We do not honor and respect the members of our armed forces who have given lives for us anything like what we should!
