How to Host an Avon Party

Rosa Hayes
Avon books were always fun to look at even when I was a child. When I grew up, I found a love for their products because of their cheapness and their convenience. I loved the feeling that I would get when my Avon products would arrive. I often shopped for my lotions and other skin products in the Avon brochure.

Hosting an Avon party, is not as difficult as it looks. These are a few tricks that my mother would use to get it off to the right start.

Invite as many people as you can and ask each one of them to bring a friend or two. The trick to hosting an Avon party, is to get as many people as you can to go to it. I would hold a prize for the person who brings the most friends or give them a discount on the items that they purchase that day.

Bring plenty of Avon brochures to give to everyone that shows up. People are going to want to take a book home with them to show to their families. If you give them a 5% discount on the items that are purchased that day, they will more than likely buy more products because they are cheaper.

Hold raffles for everyone. My mother had put raffle tickets on a table with prizes. The raffle tickets cost a quarter a piece. The prizes were raffled off at the end of the Avon party. This is a great way to get everyone involved with the party and make it more fun. People love winning things and you will usually make more money that what you had paid for the item. You want to make sure that all of the items that are raffled off or given away, are Avon products. It is smarter to use the items that you already have that were left over from orders or to purchase items that are on sale to have at your Avon party.

I would talk about the new items that are up for grabs and about how they can become an Avon Representative. The more people that you sign up, the more money you will make. In order to get more people to sign up, you need to talk about all the benefits that being an Avon Representative has. Build it up but don't lie about it. Be prepared and do your homework, people will usually ask a lot of questions about it.

Bring refreshments with you. People are going to get thirsty and hungry so make sure to have a few refreshments and snack food for everyone. Refreshments can be anything like pop or juice and the snacks can be items like fruit or sandwiches. Most people will probably eat before they come but you want to be prepared for those who haven't or if the party runs later than what you had expected.

The time of the party is everything. Most people are off on the weekend but will usually already have plans. The best time that I have found to have a party like this, is on a Thursday around six at night. The reason for Thursday is that it is not on the weekend and it is not on most people's church nights. You don't have to worry about their payday because most Avon Representatives will allow them to pay when the items arrive which will usually take a full week if not longer.

The party should last about two hours. I would not try to do it longer than this for those of them that have children and need to get back home. I would not try to do it earlier, so that it allows you to cover everything that you want to discuss.

Get your material ready a few days in advance so that it allow room for error or if something comes up. The material that you need to get together are the prizes, games, topic discussion, and a list of questions and answers that people might ask you.

Having an Avon party is not as hard as it looks and people will be thrilled with all of the opportunities that you have to offer. I will usually give a higher discount to first time customers. Just remember that a happy customer is always a customer.

Good pointers. You underscore a fundamental key to any event, if you feed them, they will come. LOL. I'm involved in a lot of nonprofit community events, mention food and your event is a cinch to go well. I like the raffle idea as well. (I remember playing "Avon Lady" when I was a kid. I thought it was so cool how she came over with all the samples and stuff. Aaahh. The good old days.)
