How to Host a Christmas Movie Party

Kyra Lennon
The Christmas season is officially upon us. The weather is icy cold, the evenings are dark and Christmas music and decorations are popping up all over the place. What better time to host a Christmas movie night? Christmas movies have already begun to show on television, and we all have our own festive favourites. Instead of having a night out on the town, gather your friends together and have a Christmas movie party!

Organising a Christmas Movie Party

The first thing you need to do is write yourself a list of your Christmas-loving friends. Depending on how much space you have in your home, you may need to limit the guest list a little but try to squeeze in as many people as you can manage. The more the merrier! Call, Facebook, or email everyone you can think of with the date for your Christmas movie party and let them know what you have planned.

To take some of the burden off you, you could ask everyone to bring their favourite Christmas movie with them. The chances are, if you have a lot of guests, you won't be able to watch them all. If this is the case, you can have a vote on the night on which films to watch. Nobody will be offended if you don't watch their choice because there will already be many other great movies playing!

You will also need to organise some drinks and snacks. Think party food but keep the emphasis on Christmas if you can. If you prefer to do your own catering, then buy things like mince pies, Christmas pudding and Stollen cake as well as other party foods. If money is a little tight, you can also ask your guests to bring some food or drink with them.

When the date of your Christmas movie party rolls around, organise the movie viewing area as comfortably as possible. You will have probably put up your tree and decorations by this time so there will already be a festive feel to the room. To make sure everyone is comfortable, provide cushions and blankets so those who are seated on the floor don't become agitated and cold after sitting in one place for too long.

A Christmas movie party is a cheap, fun way to celebrate the season with the people you love. It will add to the anticipation of Christmas and most of all, you can do it all from the comfort of your own home!

This is becoming one of our favorite holiday traditions! We host this every year with our close friends (a group of 6) - we usually have dinner, exchange gifts and watch a movie. We try to have this night no later than the Saturday before Christmas. It is a nice relaxing break from all the festivities that happen this time of year!

Sounds good. Out place is too small unfortunately though. Just make sure if guests are going to bring their own movies, that they don't squabble over what to watch. Might be a good idea to have a poll before the party to decide on the movies, and also to have a backup choice should one or the DVD's decide to not function.

I like it. I've always enjoyed film-viewing parties, and Christmas theme would be a great one. So many classics!

Great ideas! I would love to host a party, but our apartment is so small.
