How to Host a Gasoline Party: With the Rising Prices of Gas, Why Not Have Some Fun?

Arthur Kirk
The price of gas keeps going up and up. Many areas throughout the country are seeing regular gas prices as high as $4.00 and above per gallon. Other markets are getting close to that price. Why not have some fun with gas prices to make the pain of these increases less painful? You might be wondering how you could have fun with high gas prices, well the answer is to throw a party that has several different games based on the gas prices. There are many different games you can play based on the price of gas today. Here are a few suggestions of games to play at your "gasoline party" to make the increasing cost of gasoline possibly win you a few dollars to fill up your gas tank.

Gasoline Lottery

Ask each of your guests that are attending the party to bring their most recent gas receipt. Instruct them that it must have at least four digits, don't worry about that because these days if you are putting three gallons of gas in your car it will have four digits. When everyone has arrived at your gasoline party, announce that you are going to draw tonight's "gasoline lottery number". In four different cups put the numbers 0 through 9, each on one piece of paper in each cup. Go to the first cup and draw the first number, this is the number for the "tens column" that we remember from school. Draw a second number for the "ones column" and then draw the last two numbers to make up the cents columns. Ask everyone to check the gas receipt they brought with them, and whoever matches the most numbers in the correct spot on their receipt wins the gasoline lottery prize.

High Price Winner

Okay, this game all depends on how you look at it, whoever has the receipt for the highest gasoline total on the receipt they bring to the party wins a prize. Of course they will win this game, but they lost at the gas pump as they filled up their car.

Gasoline Guessing Game

This gas game takes a little research before your party. Drive around your local area and choose five gas stations. Write down the price of regular unleaded gas at each of these gas stations. Prepare a game sheet with the names of each of the five gas stations and their location. Have your guests write in how much they think gas costs at each of the five gas stations. You can score this gas game by determining how much each person is off on their guess for each of the gas stations and totalling that amount. When adding the numbers up just use how much they are off on their guess, don't worry if it is higher or lower than the actual gas price. Whichever of your guests is off the least wins the prize.

Prizes

This should come as no surprise, but the prizes for winning the gas games at your gasoline party should be gas cards. This way it continues the theme of the gas party. Go ahead and choose a few gas stations that you know have multiple locations in the area.

  • Whoever brings the largest gas receipt wins a prize, or you can do it for the smallest one.
  • The lotto game is a good opening game to start your party.
  • Don't tip your friends off to which gas stations you will use for the guessing game, keep them local
The entire party doesn't have to be themed around gas prices, but at least these games will make it entertaining to discuss gas prices instead of depressing.

Clever. I would add... look up gas cartoons or jokes online. Use them for a charades or pictionary type game.
Take a favorite or familiar song... like take me out to the ballgame... and make new words for it... Rip me off at the gas pump if I dont pay its a sham.....
