So would you like to throw a great Go Green party, but do not know how to get started? Here are some tips on how to host a Green party for family and friends;
Green Invitations:
Recycling old greeting cards or printing on recycled paper can be great, but avoid paper completely by e-mailing invitations or calling. Easily create a green theme e-card through any free e-card greeting sites, or make up your own e-card. For a DIY e-card use MS Word to type up an invitation letter covering all the basics such as date, time and what the party will be about. Add green clipart or border to make it more interesting. Let guests know if children are allowed at the Go Green party or if they need to bring anything.
Green Party Travel Tips:
Encourage guests to car pool or use public transportation. Since this is a Green party for family and friends they will most likely know each other. Making relatives car pool would be easy instead of having everyone drive separate vehicles.
Green Party Plates and Utensils:
Use real, metal utensils instead of plastic ones. This will mean a load for the dishwasher, but you will not be throwing out bags of plastic cutlery. Same can be done with plates and bowls. Serve all food on real plates and avoid using paper. Try to avoid any plastic, Styrofoam or foil.
A Go Green party can even be hosted with bio-plates, which are made from corn or potato starch. Ecopalmleafplates.com offers plates and bowls made out of Arecanut Palm Leaf. These eco-friendly bowls and plates can be ordered online, and are a great alternative to plastic.
For paper napkins, use post-consumer recycled paper. These napkins are sold in grocery stores and are naturally brown in color.
Green or Organic Food:
Server organic food is budget allows. Consider buying local produce, but not from grocery stores. Local produce means buying from farmers markets or local farmers directly. Vegetables and seasonal fruit can be purchased from local farmers or farm stands. Considering your area, some farmers will even sell local and organic meat such as beef. Organic beef can be cooked on the grill and vegetable dip can be served along with locally grown produce.
Consider serving drinks out of cans or bottles to reduce extra waste. Guests can learn to recycle plastic bottles or aluminum cans by disposing of them in separate, appropriately marked recycling containers.
Green Party Favors:
Consider purchasing a bag of tulip or other spring flower bulbs. Place one or several bulbs in a small brown paper bag and tie bag with ribbon at the top. Guests can take their flower bulbs home and plant in flower gardens or flower pots of their choice.
Learning about going green can be fun if you do it with friends and family. By hosting a Go Green party everyone can gather to share ideas and eco-friendly tips. which can be an active way to learn about green living methods.
